You forgot Jersey which is where I get the bulk of my days because I'm a local at 2 of NJ's 3 ski areas. I chose New York because this season it is where I had my second highest number of days. Some seasons PA is 2nd after Jersey but this year it's NY.

Edit: I just noticed that it's another resurrected Jurassic thread.

man, how life changes. Since this thread was made

2003-4 - Maryland
2004-5 - Vermont
2005-6 - Maine
2006-7 - Maine
2007-8 - Maine
2008-9 - New Hampshire
2009-10 - New Hampshire
2010-11 - depending on how April goes, it might be a tie for NH and VT

I usually spend one long week - 9 ski days, in Maine at Sugarloaf. That's our ski vacation, which tends to make up the bulk of our family's skiing days.
I fill this out with day trips to various places in NH, mostly Ragged and Cannon, but it rarely exceeds the 9 days at the Loaf, so I have to put down Maine ass majority of my skiing time.

No PA, I'm hurt. (not really) 800 vert and covered with plenty of man made and 45 min door to door. Consider it my personal gym. Makes my visits to Northern New England and out west better and much more cherished. The last 2 seasons here have been very good.

Has anyone completed the New England Grand Slam? Skiing all 6 states in the same season?
Well for us down staters, that's probably easy to do. That is, if there's motivation.

In a typical season, I would ski NY, VT, NH and quite likely MA. This year, I made the long trip up to Maine, though I skipped MA. I could quickly add MA in for the sake of it. But skiing CT and RI... well, that takes dedication! ;)

I can see someone living near the RI/CT border to do it naturally.

BTW, I didn't vote. My "most" state changes every year. Further more, most years, the most "state" I skied isn't in the northeast...

i got 5 of 6 New England states this year. no way in hell i'd waste a ski day driving to RI but if i was over that way i'd try to squeeze it in just to say i did it.

Exactly!

It's only for someone living near the area and ski either CT or RI as their local mountain.

When I used to live in CT, I would have CT and MA automatically done. Then it's only a matter of making it to ME to (almost) complete the 6 state slam. But driving to RI just to say I've done it? No way!

Maine my whole life and 100% of my skiing most years. If New Hampshire and Vermont switched places I would be inclined to take more road trips. There just isn't any ski area in New Hampshire worth driving the same distance or further than SL or SB, and Vermont is just too far. As it is, I ski SR 90% of the time, as it is an hour closer than SB or SL.

I certainly get convenience. When I lived in Portland I skied SR equally the same amount over SL as you did. I still do make many convenience based skiing decisions.

To suggest that there aren't areas in NH worth skiing as much as SL or SB in a similar drive range is nonsense though. Wildcat and Cannon both are within 2.5 hours from you and are fantastic.

How is it nonsense if it is simply my opinion? Not stating this as a fact. I have skied Loon, Attitash, and Wildcat in NH, and had a blast at all of them. However, IN MY OPINION, none of them, Wildcat included, compare to SR, SL, or SB. I will reserve judgement on Cannon, as I haven't skied there, but based on reports, stats, etc. it doesn't have the same allure to me as some Vermont resorts. On top of that, I already stated that I ski SR over SL (where I can ski free) and SB (where I can ski cheap) out of convenience most of the time even if conditions are better up North. Therefore, a 2.5 hour drive to Cannon, a mountain I may or may not like as much as the ME mountains, to buy a full price lift ticket isn't likely to happen anytime soon.

I went to college in VT so I could be close to Killington and Okemo...40 minutes away from both and haven't left yet ) Ran the lifts and taught skiing all through college so I could get a free pass.. now a days its a struggle to get on those mountains without finding a sweet deal or having a friend hook it up.

fair enough, it is your opinion

I just know if it's me and Wildcat or Cannon get a foot of snow and SR, SL or SB gets skunked, I'd opt for Wildcat or Cannon given their reasonable commute from your location.
