Now, I know I'm getting a bit picky here. But being the esteemed upscale resort that Stowe is trying to be, wouldn't you think their marketing department would at least understand subject-verb agreement?

No matter how you cut it, "everyone" is singular.

I see your point but there is no singular-neutered pronoun to replace "their."

"Everyone has his/her place at Stowe" just doesn't cut it.

"Their" has become the accepted neuter singular. I don't much care for it, but it's an okay concession to the PC crowd, insofar as any concession to them is okay.

Probably would have been better as "Everyone has a place at Stowe"

Simple solution -- "Everyone has a place at Stowe" . I note that "Yours" is also misspelled. It should be "Your place" or "Your's". Is this egregious copy a direct result of AIG's financial woes?

No, "yours" with no apostrophe is the correct spelling of the possesive pronoun. Never use an apostrophe with "yours."

Technically speaking, "his" can in fact be used as a singular-neutered pronoun in reference to a group including both genders.

But the minute they go down that road, I suppose they'll catch flack from some women's rights group...

BTW, I put this in misc. discussions because it's about grammar, not skiing. But I guess it works here too.

Yeah, Stowe needs women patrons too. That wouldn't fly.

I think I see what they're trying to get at with the ad but it's just not working for me. Are they trying to speak of the quiet relationship between me and the mountain?

No. No concessions. As a grammar cop, I won't stand for it.

"Everyone has a place at Stowe." See, now that's correct and easy.....

It's correct and easy, but if you're going to be such a concessionless stickler, your version does not technically mean the same as the original.

I can't be bothered with actually reading the posts I'm replying to. What would be the fun in that?

You mean, you can't be bothered with actually reading the posts to which you're replying?

Ending a sentence with a preposition is something up with which I will not put.
