McDonald's and Super 8 are franchises. You may well be supporting a local business at any given location. Starbucks locations are usually corporate but not always. Both Vail and Alterra operate Starbucks locations within their resorts.
And the "funny" thing is one of what many think (falsely) is an independent stalwart, Ben & Jerry's, is 10 ish miles down the road, accepted by the community with open arms, and about as corporate now as Starbucks is.... 🤔🤔

Yup B&J parent company headquartered in London. At least Starbucks is American.

There's been a dunkins in town for probably 20 years. So, I'm not surprised to see a Starbucks go in. Except because it has no drive thru, you would think they'd select a strip plaza with easier parking vs the village. The other two shops have strong local followings and should be fine.

I don't think this is news worthy at all. People like what they like. I am sure when people boycotte Starbucks or whatever, they will not make the margin's they need and it will get closed in a couple of years. There were 7 starbucks within 3 blocks of my office before covid. Now there are only 4. The other 3 did not make thier margins so......X. I have an esspresso machine and make my own so I don't usually have the need for a $5 cup of coffee from anywhere.
There's a new one in Concord. I love their coffee, but it's just coffee, Dunkins is much better for the price. Looks like a lot of Subways are going to be shut. Can't get workers, too many put in gas stations, etc. Covid has changed these kinds of places and there's no looking back.

The local coffee shop is the new barber shop. Fun stuff... and coffee. Often these place are target rich MILF environments.

"Hi, my names Dave, let me tell you about myself."

"That would be wonderful"

At the end - "please tell your boyfriend I said thanks" :)

edit: This works well at Stowe.

Subways shutting is a direct result of them selling shit food. I see a bleak future for alot of chains you can thank the younger generations for not wanting microwave food. Good riddance.

Well it’s better than Jersey Mikes…..

JK.

Yeah, it’s complete shit. Subways recent menu changes and marketing campaign is a tell tale sign of a business that is no longer relevant.

yeah when I saw them advertising "fresh cut meat" I knew they were in the steep part of the decline of their reign.

Jersey Mikes is a good chain sub shop. Consistently good. can you get better from a local sub shop/pizza shop, sure. But if you are on the road and want a sub, JM will give you that. Subway used to, but not in the past 20 years...

I don't think Subway was ever good. It was always low quality. Folks didn't realize it until better chains came along. Jersey Mike's is certainly good quality for a chain.

Jimmy Johns is better than Subway, but inferior to Jersey Mike's IMO. JJ recently bought out Subway, so there's bound to be some changes there.

No; the PE firm which also owns Jimmy John's bought Subway. They own a bunch of other things you'd know too, like Cheesecake Factory, etc.... They also own Miller's Ale House too, which I love, but sadly none west of the Mississippi.

A minute from the Alta exit off the I-15!
Subway f'ing over it's franchisee's is what I've heard started the decline. Too many locations too close and corporate violating exclusive areas held by current franchisees to attract new ones. Franchisee's were LOSING money on the $5 footlong promotion by the end of it.

And there's the little things like-

-Actual competition in the sandwhich QSR segment
-Your spokesperson being a pedophile and getting away with it for 15+ years.
-KNOWING your spokesperson was a pedophile and letting him get away with it for 15+ years.

I've never once understood the appeal of subway. They've always had shitty sandwiches.
