My buddy and I headed north Friday night with no particular destination. We figured we would decide before we hit Greenfield. We decided on Sugarbush, simply because we needed a change and both of us have never been there. I was excited to check it out as everyone here raves about it. We found the number to Golden Lion on my friend's crackberry and ,sure enough, there was one room left. (My Garmin navigator took us to Golden Lion in a roundabout way. I'm sure there's a more direct route and I'll have to check a map one of these days.) Michael (KingM) and his wife were kind enough to throw a cot in the room as there was only one queen room left. The room was everything we wanted: clean, spacious and affordable! We were first in for breakfast at 6:55 and we weren't disappointed. The breakfast was delicious and plentiful. There was a tour bus in the parking lot so I knew Michael had a lot of cooking to do. I decided to leave KingM to his work and to make a point to shake his hand and actually meet him in "3D" on a less busy day.
I was shocked at how close the Golden Lion was to the mountain, the trip took barely a few minutes. We were the third car in the lot. We booted up, got on the lift and just decided to explore. I didn't pay much attention to the trail names but condition on all trails were perfect with powder or packed powder on every trail. Some of my favorites was Ripcord, Murphy's Glades, Domino, Hot Shot, Eden and Rim Run.
We were both very impressed with the facilities, staff and variety of terrain. We will be returning, quite soon for more exploration.
