Years ago I spent an entire weekend there when we were never able to venture outdoors, and why bother because none of the lifts were turning, anyway.
What month was that? As I understand it, March is the best month for snow/wind conditions.

IIRC the end of January. As I said, it's been years -- I skied the 'Loaf's closing day last season and that was the first time I'd been there in over a decade.

That's a new Internet acronym for me. Had to look it up...

FYI, IIRC = If I Recall Correctly.

Correction -- that was the day before they closed. I just found my No-Bull Ski Report from that day, which was April 24, 2004. Here's one photo from the day that I'll post here to inflate my own ego:

(Note to self: Gotta stop dropping that inside hand! )

It was a Saturday, and if there were 30 skiers and riders there that day, there were a million. We were actually in the Gulf of Slides on Sugarloaf's closing day. Now I'm getting off-topic, but as long as I'm posting photos I'll throw a photo from that day of buddy Dan climbing the main gully in here as well:

I read both of those TRs when you first posted them. Good stuff!

Reggaefest @ The Loaf 2005

I just couldn't wait any longer, I've already booked reservations for Reggaefest 2005! :D

Looking forward to an early April dance. The conditions should be improved over last year, which were not as bad as Greg stated.... I believe any day you can ski with the lifts running is a GREAT DAY!

I agree with the last part of that statement, but it's tough to put a happy face on a season snowfall that barely reached a paltry 100", more than 50 of which fell in December before the Christmas Week thaw wiped everything out to bare ground. That was Sugarloaf's season last year, and while those numbers are more than depressing, I was impressed by what a remarkable job their snowmakers did to keep the place in business.

Why focus on the negatives?

I prefer to accentuate the positive, the mountain was open and WE DID SKI! :D

Life is way to short to remember the negative things we can't control...

re:....Sugarloaf....

trailboss,
As mentioned, March is usually great, but you can never tell when the Loaf'll get dumped on....February has often been pretty dynamic.... 8)

This is probably getting off the subject also, but I thought that the snowmaking was very good everywhere that I skied last year. Without it, a lot of places would have been closed. Lets hope for a better snow year!!!

I was pretty impressed with the job that the snowmakers did last year at Sugarloaf. I skied there last January from the 11-16th and they had 42 trails open on the sunday that we arrived. By thursday they were back up to 68
trails with alot of snowmaking and 3" of new snow. When I returned on April 9-11th they had 105 trails and most of that was on snowmaking terrain with hardly any natural snow on the majority of the mountain. I want to go back next January, but I will wait to see what conditions are like after Christmas
instead of booking way in advance. The new snowmaking on the Pipeline,Lower Winters Way,Lombard X Cut and Slasher should help the conditions on the lower mtn this season.
