A friend's wife has given me the task of figuring out what skis to buy him. Will obviously tell her that we can't just buy him a pair of boots for multiple reasons...

He's 42, probably 200#, about 6'. He has been skiing on 215cm (not a typo), K2 Super G skis. He is sort of old school form-wies as he is a long radius, not quite swivel-hips, but very controlled and skis fast. He did try my Fischer RX8s last season and didn't have any problems.

Thinking a GS cut, maybe or maybe not race ski. 175cm should be fine.?.?.?

I would rather try to get him to the Loon demo for Ken Jones on the 10th, but may not be able to have her wait to buy him the skis.

That sounds about right to me. Some places will let you demo a number of skis for about $50 a day. Usually, it's done at the ski shop on the mountain. They'll give you a credit of $50 if you buy the skis there. The nice thing about that, you don't have to wait for demo day or wait in lines on demo day.

I wouldn't feel good about this if I was you. It can only come back to haunt you if it doesn't work out. A good ski shop will let you buy equipment and exchange it later. We do this ALL the time at our club. So I'd suggest find a good shop with a really decent selection, buy some skis and bindings (unmounted). She can wrap em up, gift them, he will be thrilled and the day will be good.
