www.skimd.com put an impressive tune on my GS skis. The guy behind the technique is a zealot. Check out his bio on the site. I am curious to see how his waxing technique works out. Check it out in his FAQs link. To maintain the finish...no ironing! He uses this piece of fabric wrapped arpound a piece of PVC and rubs the wax in after "crayon-ing" it on. It looks like a spit-shine! (so yes, I bought the device)

I also did the custom boot fitting deal with Summit (co-located)...inserts and alignment. Left leg was spot on. Right leg was out to lunch (3 degrees). They checked it via two methods. Same Same. So.....boot planing...without the drives to Concord, NH or elsewhere.

I'll let you know how it works out....in a month or so....hopefully less!

I previously praised the work at Summit. I dropped off two pairs of skis last week for my annual tune with Mike DeSantis. I also have the WaxWizard and had great results using it last season. The shop will soon be relocating to the former Ski Market site just down the road on Rt 9.

I use to get my Crossfires tuned there and was extremely happy with his work. Two main reasons I stopped going there, first was because of logistics. Just a pain in the ass to drive to Framingham to get my skis tuned and it has to be dropped off and picked up days later. Second was I didn't want my Legend 8K's tuned with a 3 degree side + 1/2 degree base when I'm using them in bumps and trees. When I asked the guy at the store if I could get them tuned 2 + 1 he told me no and their tune works better for all conditions.

If you're racing or want to tune your carvers the guy does an awesome job.

I could be wrong about this but it felt like he didn't detune the tips and tails. Tips were way to grabby and tails would hook up for me. I would detune them myself. Granted my techniques not great so form your own opinion.

The Wax Wizard is the balls. I wouldn't rely on it for regular waxes but it's great for in between tunes especially spring time with slushy snow. Same with the edge tool they sell, works great for deburring edges between tunes.

Mike is outstanding. I had my skis tuned locally last year and they were virtually unskiable. Took them to another shop who said the edges had been rolled off and he wasn't sure they could bring them back (they're old skis that soon need replacing). Took them up to Mike and he worked his magic and they skied great. SkiMD is terrific!

To avoid any confusion, both Summit and SkiMD will be moving to the old Framingham Ski Market location. I stopped in there last night and they think it might be right after T'giving. Mike bought some more machines so he'll be able to ramp up the tuning business a bit.
