I'm going to Sunday River this ski season. I have skied there before but I am looking forward to skiing the blacks (which I couldn't do before). I'm not ready for the double blacks there yet, but I would like some top ten lists or recommendations. Thanks to those who respond!

Risky Business and American Express off Spruce peak are always good runs. Also Obsession on White cap, Right Stuff at Barker, Northern lights and Airglow on Aroura, and Excaliber and Rogue Angel at Jordan all ski nice.

Those are fun runs, but they are no longer blacks. I was there a couple of weeks ago and they are now blues, but very challenging blues

same is true of Excalibur, Rouge and Northern LIghts, though I don't believe they were ever blacks. Also wasn't aware of Risky and Amex being blacks too at some point. Learn something new every day

All the trails Terry listed are great cruising runs, with the Blacks offering just a touch more pitch. Locke Line, Bim's Whim, Tight Wire Upper Cut and Cross Bow are all blacks that are pretty interesting without getting over your head.

If there are two blacks you may want to avoid as they tend to be as difficult as the doubles on the map, Upper Downdraft and Quantum Leap are them. I would put Quantum just below Black Hole and parts of Vortex, Shockwave and White Heat as being one of the steepest trails on the mountain.

.

One of the guys I was skiing with that weekend grew up on that hill, and his family has a place there. He was the one who told me that those two trails were recently changed from blacks to blues. Maybe he was mistaken. But they are two very fun runs with good length and decent pitch at parts.

Obsession hands down IMHO....sim pitch as white heat but they don't let the mini vans pile up on the trail so you can usually let it fly.

I think Obsession is my favorite SR trail.

Favorite SR trails by trail class:

Green: Lollapalooza
Blue: American Express
Black: Obsession
Double Black: I've only skied White Heat.

Obsession is my favorite trail also. When there's fresh snow they tend to leave the right side ungroomed all the way down. Makes for a long run.

I'm pretty sure Amex was always a blue, but Risky was definitely a black and they changed it some years back.

Good advice about Quantum Leap. Most of the time, that trail could qualify for double black status. Fun run in good conditions.

Lost Princess and Eureka on Oz are a blast, especially with fresh snow; can't wait to ski those on Tuesday. Blind Ambition is a great single black glade. I suspect it'll be open after today if it's not already.

Obsession and Right Stuff are my favorite black diamonds.
Amex, Rogue Angel, Excalibar and Northern Lights are great blues for all the other reasons mentioned.

I suggest warming-up on Barker and heading to White Cap to hit Obsession and if conditions are mint consider White Heat. Then work your way to Jordan bowl for some laps on Ex and Rogue and Lola. Then lunch at Jordan.

I love ungroomed deep/steep stuff and don't make my way to WhiteCap usually unless I'm out for a few days..... Conditions have to be right for Oz, wish I was there right now.
