NEWRY, Maine -- Sunday River's potent snowmaking system has allowed the resort to open multiple trails from the summit of Barker and Locke Mountains after just two and a half days of snowmaking. The resort is opening to the public at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 21.

"We've employed a combination of traditional and low energy snow guns depending on elevation and temperature to lay down as much snow as possible,” said Sunday River Vice President of Operations Marvin Collins. "The next few nights look cold enough for continued snowmaking and we'll be taking advantage of every good hour. We got our few cold days that we needed just in time for the holiday."

The resort is working to provide top-to-bottom skiing and riding as early as Wednesday. Once top-to-bottom terrain is open up to seven trails will be available. An early season mini terrain park will also be open by Wednesday. Uploading and downloading from the Locke Mountain Triple is currently required and open terrain is for advanced skiers and riders only.

Numerous events are scheduled for the holiday weekend including Demo Days where guests can test out the latest gear before buying, the grand reopening of the Foggy Goggle après ski bar, a premiere of the film Snow Gods which was partially shot at Sunday River by Meathead Films, and the first annual TBD Open rail jam.

Video and photos from opening day will be available at www.sundayriver.com by Tuesday afternoon along with the latest snowmaking and trail updates.

Thanksgiving weekend ski and stay packages are available starting at $55 per person per night.
