Is there tree skiing at sundown? how does the management feel about tree skiing?

Yes. The trees are OB so it's frowned upon. Haven't been in any woods yet, but I'd imagine the base is there. They might be skiable, but would really do well from another 6".

Is tuesday night a bad night to ski sundown due to racers on gunbarrel?

2/3 of Gunbarrel on the bottom third of the hill is occupied by racing. I wouldn't skip a particular night because of it.

Some trees

I skied there today MLK day and it was amazing but crowded.
There are lots of little tree shots off of the green trails nothing more than 50 yards long though to my knowledge. There is a really nice little shoot off of panhandle just as you get into it that is like 100 feet long and pops you out on to lower canyon. hug the side of canyon and there is a neat little tree shooot with a jump there as well.

Just above the mid mountain snowmaking pond maybe a couple hundred yards i noticed trails going into the woods but never saw it come out anywhere below and a stream rom the pond would block access to the rest of the mountain.
ANy one know where any other spots are?

BTW the moguls there suck they are like gigantic shark fins some one needs to reform them.

I would definitely not say the moguls suck, they are far from seeded, much more like natural. Perhaps someone just needs to learn how to ski them? At a mountain like that cross cut troughs have to be expected as masses of unskilled sliders try them out everyday. The only way they're going to get "reformed", again, is if more people zipper them to knock down the walls.

Sorry you didn't like the bumps. Most of us do! They were reseeded in the middle of winter. Short of a foot+ of snow, there is little reforming that can take place via skier traffic until it warms up. There are two main areas of skiable trees, one several hundred vertical feet. It doesn't sound like you found either of them. The main area is not at all obvious and takes some time just to get to it. You need to ski with a local.

I am pretty sure I am going to ski sundown on the 31st or 1st will anybody be there? Does it get crowded on the weekends, and how much is a pass

Post a thread in the Trips and Events forum, there's sure to be someone from here there that weekend.

It can get a little busy on the weekends, but the lift lines aren't usually worse than a 5 minute wait or so. For a small hill the crowds generally spread out pretty well once on the mountain. In my experience Saturdays are typically the busier day.

See their website for rate information. I'm curious; are you planning on being in the area already, or are you driving down just ski Sundown?

I am going to East Longmeadow MA which I think is only 30 mins from there and should check it out since a lot of people on here talk about it.

Nah, the only way they'll be reformed is by knocking 'em down again, or some serious shovel work. It's not the walls that are so bad (there's only really a few at this point) so much as the drops. Zipperliners won't do anything to smooth out the drops.

Suck is a strong word, though. Definitely not ideal, but plenty skiable.

Don't get me wrong i love sundown for a small place i can't think of many better. And the moguls at the bottom right near the lodge are fine. But for non expert mogul skiers, as you pointed out i certainly am, they are pretty gnarly and sharp. I have seen plenty of moguls, and I can tell you these were just weird in how sharp they were and their general layout. Both times I went they had decent snow though.

And what is with the mystery tactics on the location of the glades just please tell me which trail they are off of an I will keep my eyes open. Geez locals can be so protective of theyre stashes.

Mystery tactics because glade skiing is not permitted at Sundown. Some people on here have good relationships with Sundown that I imagine they'd like to preserve.
