Are they cool with you earning your turns if you have a pass or ticket and just want to get some training in?

One of their patrollers (Nigel) skins up the mountain all the time.

I'd like to do the Life-Link race at Madriver/Sugarbush this season and I need a local place to practice.

Do you know if Sundown got their broken chair fixed too?
So far as I know, as long as you have a pass and you're not obstructing trails, it's ok. I know I saw some people skinning their way up a few times last season. But the pass is the key. If you don't have one, you don't belong on the hill. That becomes theft of services.

Broken chair? Do you mean lift 2, one of the triples to the top? That lift had a few issues last season, but they got them all fixed up well before the end of the season. As a matter of fact that's the lift they were running on the last day. I don't think there were any outstanding issues with it, but if there were you can be sure that they'll be addresses before they open up again. Sundown's maintenance guys do a real good job keeping those lifts running in top condition.

Mechanical problem...or did somebody not know how to load on the chair on the bottom?

not sure what it was really.. there was probably twice as much waiting than what the silly video shows. I actually skied back up to the chair and pulled my friend and his daughter off. they were literally six inches from the ramp but couldn't get off due to the chair swinging back every time they tried. :)

Hello AZ Folks,
I just want to take some time to clear up some of the topics that have come up in this tread.
At this time skiing/riding in the woods at Ski Sundown is not allowed. All the trails here have snow-making pipe along side them. Some of the pipe is below ground and some is above ground at shin height. Drainage culverts and tree falls also, create unseen hazards.
I don’t want to ramble about this, so in short, the area is not currently set up for this.
Twenty years ago, tree skiing was not as popular as it is today. We are exploring the potential for glades in our expansion project. Lack of snow fall is the biggest obstacle. However, I feel we can cut glades in a manner that allows snowmaking to drift into them. Much like it does to the skier’s right of Nor’Easter.
The people you see earning turns here, are, Ski School staff or Ski Patrollers that are training for Nordic Certification. If you would like to train similarly contact me ahead of time at chris@skisundown.com and I will do what I can to accommodate your needs. Skiing, the area when we are not open is not allowed. Skiing the area when we are closed and making snow is just plain dangerous. (480V power cords in the snow)
The lift featured in the video was lift #4. The stoppage was due to a mechanical problem. The electric drive had issues. It was repaired overnight. No hard feelings on the video, sorry for the inconvenience.
I have lurked on this forum for a few years and find it insightful
Chris

:) I will remember Jan 5, 2008 @ SkiSundown for the rest of my life. Not for the few minutes we waited for the lift that day but rather because that was the day my 9 year old daughter, and her 2 best friends, fell in love with skiing. No need to apologize for the non-existant inconvience, instead, I thank you for what was truely a memorable day at Ski Sundown:

Kids are cool. Can't wait to get Abby out for her third season. She was skiing independently and making nice short turns by the end of last year. I hope to get Liv out in the spring.

Love Sundown, will ski there a lot this winter but can't let your comment go unscathed... ;-)

;-) ;-) ;-)

I forgot about that. You can't fault Sundown though, things break sometimes. ;) Not to mention that lift is probably worked harder than any of the other lifts at Sundown. The amount of stopages due to mis-loads or unloads it pretty tough on the equipment.

Agreed! Glad to see you finally post Chris! Do we have to wait another 2.5 years before you'll post again? ;)

I see him lurking a lot. Chris is a great guy, one who "gets it."
