Tailgate or Lodge?

So we're all booted up already and now it's time for a snack or lunch or refreshments. Do you lodge it or tailgate it? Even though I bring a cooler full of goodies for snacking and refreshment, I almost allways buy lunch at the lodge. I guess this is because I'm far from home/lazy/like to eat a hot meal/relax and spread out in a warm place.

The exception is that in the spring, nothing beats a Habachi (and beer) in the parking lot. Bear Mtn. used to be my favorite spot for that.

I usually try and make lunch the night before and just hit the car. Again, depends on the resort...some are better set up for it than others to either ski or take a quick walk to the car.

Most days though, I'm skiing for five hours usually. I try and get on the lift by 9, ski straight through until 2 and eat lunch on the way home.

Hmmmm. Yea, judging by your scorecard, I see that you're mostly a day tripper. I'm usually going up for a 2,3 or 4 day powder fest. But I really could do more tailgating with a little better planning.

Maybe I should have titled this thread "Best lots for SPRING tailgating" Bear gets my vote. On a nice day with soft bumps.....

a lot of it depends on the company I'm with. I spent a few seasons ski bumming in Stowe and we always had a crew of people that would gather in the lot throughout the day, sometimes Mansfield, sometimes Gondi.

I think Sunapee has the best set up in the east for tailgating. It's essentially just like A Basin.

If it is warmer than 20*F and sunny, tailgate. Half the fun of botting up in the truck is having food, beverages and extra clothes that are 'ski to'.

Lodge food with a few exceptions like Deer Valley and in Quebec, is usually over priced and terrible.

I eat in the lodge, but try to bring my own lunch as often as possible.

Also, how early we start is a function of how fun the night before was; if it was a little too much fun, we eat a big breakfast then ski til last chair without stopping, so no need for lunch or even to go inside, unless its in the single digits or lower.

Whenever we're Daytrippin Bring our own and and always eat in the lodge buy beverages there - the lodge(s) at Titus are a very cool retro vibe and most folks Bring stuff .

On the road trip thing we use Lodge food

I used to pic nic lunch it all the time, when I hauled my nephew and his buddies to the hill. Who can afford to feed all those boys?

When he went off to school, I started to eat with the grown ups at the lodge, usually at the restaurant instead of cafeteria.
However........
In the spring, or on particularly warm winter days, we like to tailgate. Sometimes, my husband brings the turkey frier filled with Chili! Yum!

I almost never eat when I'm skiing. Then again, most of my skiing is at Sundown in sessions less than 4 hours. If I'm at a bigger mountain, though, I usually buy food in the cafeteria. It's expensive, but it's easy.

While I would eat on the lift, the wife and kids feel differently. This is where the RV really shines! Fire up the stove and microwave and a cheap, warm feast is on its way. Really helps the limited vacation dollars go farther, particularly when we're spending a week going from resort to resort.

I usually eat at the lodge, usually a bar/restaurant rather than cafe food. Sit down have a couple beers then head back out. Sometimes I bring a sandwich or something and just eat on a lift ride too. The exception is spring, gotta tailgate in the spring, although then I usually park at White Cap at SR, leave lunch and beers in the car, grab it later and bring it back to the firepit.

Should be a sweet day for some tailgate action on Saturday actually. Kinda psyched about that.

I eat in the bar,I tailgate if it's sunny,I go back to the house on occasion and the best is lunch like last Saturday.Spent a few hours at the top of Cannon barbecueing. We had everything from hotdogs to steak tips, jerk chicken and even scallops wrapped in bacon.Plenty of beer, wine and mixed drinks. And a good sunburn! That's living.

Camelback has a nice lot by The Sun Bowl to tailgate in if you can get there early enough to get a prime spot. Have gotten one a few times and had a blast.

Not too much tailgating at Sugarloaf. The parking lots are just far away.
