Ted Lepkowicz: Mr Ski Sundown

During my hike on Sunday, I noticed this on the sundeck where the AZ crew meets on Wednesday nights. I took a photo of it to remind me to ask this here:

Anyone know anything about this guy? Probably just some local? Just curious...

Sounds like he won an obscure bodybuilding title.

Ted Lepkowitz was a long time ski instructor, that I have never met. From what I'm told he was a very positive person, and he loved to ski, as well as teach others to ski. He would also chip in to help out the ski area any way he could during the early years of operation.
His Grandson Jeff has been a snowmaker/lift operator here for the past 8 seasons.
Every year our Ski School awards the Ted Lepkowitz award to the ski instructor, that best represents the spirit of skiing.

I seem to remember a guy named Jeff who is a snowmaker/liftie, I guess that's probably the same guy... I'll have to ask him next season if I remember.

Ted

I knew Ted at sundown years ago. We taught skiing together there. He was one hell of a guy! He was retired from the state and taught skiing to keep active. I knew him from 1974 until his untimely death in 1986. I think he was skiing in europe and had his grand children along and suffered a fatal heart attack.

I don't know what Ted enjoyed more, the teaching, the flirting with the ladies, or the partying in the evening after skiing. He was one of the most affable people I've ever known. I can remember standing out in the parking lot drinking beer with him on one particularly cold night when the bar was shut down because the crowd was very light due to the cold. I froze my ass off but Ted seemed at home in the cold.

I think the ski school there now has an annual award that is displayed in the lodge given to an instructor
in Ted's name.
