Was wondering if some people who have skiied Tenney could give me some feedback.

Ever since a few years ago when I heard about their summer time snowmaking system I have had interest in heading up there. I know that the program has been shut down but I was wondering how the mountain it self was.

Ummm...things are changing and for the better IMHO. I had a bad experience in 2004. Enough said.

Terrain is interesting...not too steep, but old school. Not much snowmaking. New HSQ will help things.

must have been when my 5yr old blew by you? hahahaa!!!!!!

10e needs a new lift...its deathly slow. when Egan was there he was making great terrain improvements by cutting underbrush/saplings so the boulders and natural jumps were accessible.

they have been hurt by lack of natural snow the past few yrs, but overall and generally speaking, i like the hill. the terrain is fun and its not crowded. with that said a new lift could change the overall feel. ive been there w/ my family on powder days and there were untracked lines all day long. it was killer!

snowmagic http://www.snowmagic.com/main.html was/is the parent company i think. anyway, they were the one's w/ the snowmaking technology. basically, they make snow (ice sheets) in a giant refrigerator and pipe it up the hill. the cost is high and apparently they don't have much cash flow. im not even sure they have the equipment on the hill anymore!

i hope that they come back strong...soon.

I haven't been in a few years, but I went several times in (I think) 03-04 and had fun. It struck me as a good "blue" mountain without much really steep stuff.

The summit lift was hilarious, like a toy lift. The chairs are even smaller than most doubles. The lift towers look like toys. It's the slowest lift I've ever been on; it felt like it took 15 minutes to get to the top, which put a limit on how much vert. you could do in a day. I didn't mind, though; the lift was kind of quirky and cute, and it didn't have much of a lift line despite the speed. Of course, if they're putting in a HSQ that will change things entirely.

My favorite parts of the mountain were the glades; there are several of kind of middling difficulty.

I liked the low-key vibe of the place. The restaurant/bar at the base got points for serving good bar food at good prices, unlike the overpriced hockey pucks you find at a lot of places.

Nope, Snowmagic and all their jazz is gone. They were hyping the place a few years ago and it never really worked. They were in the snowmaking business and not the "ski area" business, which hurt them. There is a distinction

Specifically we were burned by their lack of snowreporting/customer service. Pretty sure that has changed. I always had wanted to ski there. A lot of good things going for it--location, night skiing, great college town. But it is having a tough time competing with WV, Loon, and Cannon. It should focus on the locals market...as in those who can't afford the $65 Loon ticket.

Seems that the "new owners" are in the resort business, specifically destination hotels, and one is coming to Tenney. Talk about extending the mtn down to the main road as well. Some big changes may be in store. I also heard a rumor that the double may be installed for the lift line that was cut above the Venus Fly Trap, etc terrain. I find this doubtful considering how old that lift is.
