Today March 25 is the last day for Whiteface Mountain. All other NY State ski areas have already closed for the 2011-2012 season.

Everyone prey to the snow gods this summer for a better 2012 - 2013 season.

There is always Aerial Training at Whiteface this summer.

I just got back from the Catskills this past Saturday night (March 24). I spent Thursday and Friday at Hunter and Windham. I wish I could say I skied there but it was almost 80 degrees and sunny on Thursday and not much cooler on Friday. I had the top down, the doors off my Jeep Wrangler and was wearing shorts and a T shirt most of the time I was there

I didn't ski, I HIKED up both mountains. Both Windham and Hunter ski resorts were closed. There was snow on the trails but it was obviously melting fast.

The first thing the hotel clerk said to me when I checked in was "ski resorts are closed". He wasn't surprised when I laughed and said I had my hiking poles, not my ski poles.

Thursday it was so hot I sweated most of the way up to the Hunter fire tower. There were still some patches of snow/ice here and there on the trail but new grass was coming up as well.

On Friday I hiked up to the top of Windham peak. I could see both ski areas with snow still on the trails. The trees still don't have any leaves so the views were great. Wonderful hikes up both mountains so if you like hiking as well as skiing go check the Catskills out. It's great to be out, regardless.

Have a wonderful spring and summer and let's pray for a more "winter-like" ski season for 2012-13. Just as there was as big a difference from 2010-11 to this year it can be the same for next year. These things come in "waves".

Until November..enjoy! :) There;s a lot to be said about warm and sunny weather too! That's why I like to hike, kayak and camp, as well as ski and snowshoe.

I guess the hotel clerk assumed otherwise. I didn't see anyone skiing at Hunter but I was a bit far away. I didn't take the trail near the lifts.

Temps for the Thursday and Friday before were in the high 70s at least so I can't imagine there was much snow left by Saturday.
