Still just as much MTB as I can fit in. Not as frequent as earlier in the season, but still almost 2 rides a week. The rides are typically shorter duration, but equal or more miles than what I was doing in June and July. Feeling great!

I've been so busy at work that I'm way behind schedule on the work-out. I usually fit in a weight session at night jsut to keep from "losing" ground.

I traveled THursday, worked Fri-Sun, traveled Mon, and worked late since getting back (through lunch).

I don't remember an October this busy!

Ankle is feeling much better. Got out for a run Saturday, ride Sunday, and today I picked up a used double jogging stroller so I can run tomorrow WITH the kids. Woohoo!!!! :D If I can get my butt off the internet during the day I'll do much better.

I've only gotten to the gym a couple times in the last few weeks. Just too many trips to the hospital. I'm way behind where I need to be with my knee. I should do some exercises at night, but I'm usually to beat to do anything other than sit down by the tv.

I've been feeling a bit guilty about a rather glutonous and lazy last couple of weeks  So once I got home from vacation this past weekend, I told my self that no more excuses for being lazy will be excpeted between now through atleast turkey day!

It's a strict, smart diet AND 5 to 6 cardio sessions per week. I've told my self if and only if I stick to that plan, then my weekely reward (in addition to a lower number of the scale) will be a couple of beers  on either Friday night or Saturday night that week.

but now how many beers you going to drink.

o hows the new place.

The new place is steezy and I only drank three beers last night..but tonight is Thirsty Thursday with $2 Sam Adams and Magic Hats at the local bar.. I figure if I do the Eliptical machine for 30 minutes every other day..I'll be in better shape for ski season..

I'm going hiking tomorrow afternoon as well..

My MTB has dropped off a bit, but I still manage to get a good ride in once or twice a week. Been trying to do some more conditioning at home too, but haven't gotten too far with that. I do need to step it up a notch or twelve though...

Ran/walked this morning pushing the kids in the jogging stroller. Pushing about 90 lbs really amps up the workout! :D If I can keep this up a few times a week, plus getting some MTB in, I should be golden. Now all I need to do is work on my balance/core stuff.

Here we go: home-stretch! Concentrating on endurance and legs so it's

- 30 minutes ( al least) on the elliptical
- Squats, leg press, leg extensions
- hamstring curl, lunges, step-ups
- crunches, leg lifts, back extensions

I also have to make weight so I'm cutting back on the carbs and eating more fruits. Hope to be in fighting form by October 31.

I busted up a good sweat earlier moving 50 pound bags of ready mix cement from the delivery truck into the shed for a Monolith we're setting next week in wet concrete for a playground dedication..

Since joining the single scene I've lost over 20 lbs and have been hitting the gym 4 to 5 times a week after work and on days off. 20 minutes to start on the eliptical and 40 minutes with the weights. Started hiking with a company called Outdoor Bounds as well. Felt good to be able to keep up with the guides as they where a lot smaller and lighter than me. Longest hike was about 8 miles in the Shawgunks. A wild 6 hour class 3 whitewater raft trip finished me off though. I got floored with Pnumonia for 2 weeks and have finaly recovered enough to hit the gym again. So while everything else in my life went to hell I'll be in the best shape ever for the season. Can't wait for Utah!!!!! Andy Z...you listening?????

you are a maniac..

Thank you, GSS!

Everything is relative. Multiple daily workouts can become a grind and a distraction to productivity in other areas of one's life. I try and fit them in, commuting by bike, running during my kids soccer practice, for example. I have been an endurance machine for 35 years (16 marathons, countless shorter running & multisport races). It is almost discouraging when you realize you have to put in at least a moderate workout everyday just to maintain the fitness level you are at, while aging conspires to pull you down. AZers looking forward to ski season might take motivation from realizing the more "out of shape" a person is, the easier it is for them to make visible gains.

My training lacks strength workouts right now. I usually cut them in after running a fall marathon, and continue through the ski season.

I really believe that for recreational skiers, endurance trumps strength any day. Because here is what I see: Typically, when out west, I am at the bottom of mogul runs waiting for people who have to stop every 100 yards to catch their breath. In the east, at the end of the day, I am the one taking the last chair when my friends and family have legs that are toasted by 3:30.

I'm trying to walk up Killington every day. I've now lost 90 pounds in the last 15 months. My fitness level is roughly what it was in 1999 and I've unwound 8 years of damage.

Congrats on both the number of lbs and the commitment to the overall timeframe that you've done it in. I know all too well how tough it is to stay committed to a plan like that with all the glorious food and drink temptations that exist!
