The downside of Gmail

I got an early Gmail account, and so was able to get my name as my address (particularly useful for the job hunt I was on at the time). The downside is that I now get emails intended for people with the same name as me. So far, there's a me that is missing school in Denver right now with flu-like symptoms, a me that is buying a flat in London (and that works in the same industry as me), a me that is considering a package ski trip in Europe (not too far off base, there), and a me that went on a trip to Canada.

Anybody else get this kind of stuff?

Not many with my name, so has never happened yet. I've got an unusual first and last name, which is also a help with avoiding common fraud. Must be a little fun to see what your alternate selves are up to.

Never have problems getting my name as an email address either...except like 15 yrs ago when my bro grabbed the address on AOL since we both have same first initial. I've used first and middle since then.

Middle initial thrown in as well for mine (name.initial.name@.) Never seen anything meant for anyone else.

I used to get mail for another me who apparently lived in Australia. Her friends kept emailing wondering why she wasn't responding. Finally emailed back to a few to let them know I wasn't her. Haven't heard from them since.

On the flip side, I have clients that confuse my old email personal address with my new business one and have had files not arrive in my email box. Figure the me in Australia is probably getting them. Her friends sounded way cooler than my clients.

There is a person in the back of our neighborhood that has the same first and last names as my father and I.
Making it even weirder is that when neighborhoods are built they often use the same blueprints and build the same houses over and over. Well the design of the house I live in was only used twice. And the owner of that house is of course the guy with the same name as us.

That is a little odd.

I think we may be dealing with what we in the business like to call a "mirror."
There are a few things that will tell you if this is what you're dealing with. When you see your neighbor, is he wearing the same outfit as you? If you wiggle your nose, does he wiggle his at the same time? When you talk to him, raise your right hand. If he raises his left, then it's a good bet you're delaing with a classic mirror. To verify, look for beveled edges.

Just found out one of the people is working on a high school project, and sending emails back and forth is how they're saving their work.

Being the helpful sort I am, I suggested Google Docs.

Apparently, an Australian me is opening a restaurant in Perth, and according to the local health inspector, everything looks okay, he dropped of some more HandWash stickers, and they still need to go over tthe foodsafe files with the staff- he gave one to Hendry, and Sita got one from Shandra. The place is 44 King Street in Perth, but I think I'd rather go around the corner to this place: http://www.belgianbeer.com.au/home.html

In other news, I apparently now also have a Myspace account, but I can't unsubscribe from the multitude of emails because I don't have an account.

Well, obviously, you just forgot your password. You should have them send your password to your email so you can unsubscribe.

had this issue with my old Earthlink/Mindspring email address..

I had my first.last name... he had last.first...

Super religious dude from the ATL... Lots of emails about church rallies.. And thanks for stuff...

I always returned the emails back if they were personal.. When I abandoned the ID I let him know...

Abandoned it for a Gmail.... Which I love...

One of the alternate me's just opened a new Gmail account off his regular one and, surprise surprise, messed up his actual address. Aside from the normal stupidity, the email address that he opened is "random.shit14a@gmail.com"

Seems to me, if it's the 14ath random.shit, it may not be so random as you think.

In other "Me" news:

I'm contemplating purchasing a house in New Zealand to rent out while I move to Singapore for 4-5 years, and have gotten some very helpful tax advice from a very nice chartered accountant at RSM Prince.

I have a VirginMobile phone in Anaheim, CA, with 1500 minutes

I got married to a nice girl named Jess, and I hope that my being in the RAF doesn't cause any problems down the road.

My neighbors in Indianapolis are nice enough to bundle their snow removal with mine. Max and Janet are nice that way.

My brother lives in Charleston, and my sister is in Uganda. No, wait, I live in Nashville, and my brother lives in Brooklyn. Oddly, my brother does live in Brooklyn...
