I know all you hardcore never say never diehards out there will probably consider this thread as some sort of metaphoric surrender. Please remember you can garden and ski during the same weekend for weeks/months to come.

Today my first flowers appeared in the garden, a sure sign of spring here on the coast of Maine. I assume your already mowing in NY area while in northern NE you have a few weeks left until gardening season happens. Last year it happened several weeks from now. Here are a couple of pics. Sorry for the poor quality as I am still trying to figure out the new dig cam

Mowing? Huh??

Still living inside the winter bubble. Please don't try to pop it yet.

My riding mower and gardening tools are making a racket inside my shed, but I've managed to ignore them so far.

Hey Jim, you were talking about a fat lady singing in another thread. I was going to see about getting her to come down and sit on you for that remark!

You really ought to know better than that by now.

I don't have any space to grow anything. We can't even keep those bamboo things alive for long.

A thread read by all those in denial about the upcoming end of ski season.

At least you were kind enough to not mention golf though.

I've got so much landscaping and gardering to do it isn't even funny:
  • Repair and enhance 18,000 square feet of lawn that I newly seeded last Fall
  • Build retaining walls, steps and a front walk
  • Build a large ground level deck
  • Clear brush and deadfall in the back yard
  • Start some beds
That's probably plenty for this summer.

I've personally seen Marc germinating some sort of plants in his house. He claims they are legal to grow, but I'm not so sure about that.

SRO, I have some lillies poking through at my house. I think they're tiger lillies. My landlord trasplanted them last year.

I have three flats worth of seeds started in doors and have been going for about two and a half weeks. Lupine, dahlia, carnation, hollyhock, and delphinium. The carnation have had a piss poor germination rate. 3 seeds out of 15. I'll have to plant more of those, although I'm going to have more plants than I can use as it is.

I'm also thinking about growing a couple tomato plants. I don't have a whole lot of room to plant at my house, but I do have free reign of my grandmother's landscaping. My father is big into vegetables. Between his two gardens he probably has at least 2000 sq ft worth of just vegetables. He actually has a little 25 hp tractor and used to use a single bottom plow to till them. Now I think he's got a 3 point hitch tiller attachment for it.

I'm more or less an amateur at gardening, but I found I like perennials because I'm also inherently lazy. I've been successful in cultivating a good looking crop of forget me nots, candy lilly, and foxglove. Also chinese lanterns but I'm not impressed with those and they get insect eaten. I will probably pull those up and turn that bed into something else.

Most of them are legal. Is anyone willing to smoke some of them to find out?

I am an avid gardener, the only problem is I own two Saint Bernards, one of which likes to dig large deep holes in my backyard. This forces me to maintain the front of my house, and I took two pictures of my perennial bed which is comming to life way early this year.

I have warm sunny weather today (56Fright now) but cutting grass is at least 3-4 weeks away.

I was working in my side yard yesterday, clearing away a mulch/compost pile that I had formed last fall, when I dug right into a cottontail rabbbit nest. Before I knew what I had dug into there where 3 babies in my wheelbarrow, one dropped onto the grass and two where still in the remains of the nest. Amazingly none where killed, and I tried to rebuild the nest, but the mother did not come back to feed them last night.

This morning we turned them into our animal hospital and they are now with a wildlife specialist:
