A rookie driver? Plan on three hours, especially in snow. If you're in the get-to part of Lynn,Lynn (say, Fayette Street, where I coded my first GSW) 3 hours, even on dry pavement. If you're out in the high numbers of Lynnfield street, you might make it to Magic in 2.75 on dry roads. If you go Rt 2, its all secondary roads after Gardner. If you go Rt 3, ditto after the city of nausea. Either way, 50 miles of highway, 85 miles of secondary roads.

Major point: don't ski there alone.

If my memory serves me, I went to Magic a few years back, when I was working the weekend at Mt. Sneaux. There had just been a serious ice-storm in southern VT. In search of crowd-less skiing, I went with my ski buddy Kurt. Never had been to Magic before, but it was a blast! Old-fashioned New England skiing-- narrow, winding, FUN trails. Not a crowd to be seen. Most likely the snow could have been better, but after an ice storm everyone was lucky there was power to get the lifts running (including Mt. Sneaux).
