What would everyone's idea of an "ideal" East Coast winter be like? Try to keep your responses somewhat realistic...

Agree with Andy, except more snow before Valentine's Day, and no major thaw in January like we had with all the rain. That really killed the none snow making terrain up til Feb 14.

November: Consistent cold weather up north..a snowstorm in mid November and another snowstorm over Thanksgiving weekend.

December: More Cold and Snow

January: More Cold and Snow

February: More cold and Snow

March: More cold and Snow

April..a few more feet of snow in Northern Vermont like last winter..then warm days and cool nights providing fast frozen groomers in the early AM turning to sweet creamed corn..

May: a nice base existing at lots of the ski areas for easrned turns..

Consistent cold. That's really the key. And it doesn't have to be arctic, just no extended warm-ups.

I would agree with Greg. The key to a successful season would be cold weather that comes in early November and stays till late march. The noreaseters and other storms will come along with scattered smaller storms that will lay down a decent natural surface. The key is no melting. Don't get me wrong I would love to see an epic year with a 3 foot dump every two weeks but after the last few years in the Catskills i will settle for consistent cold weather.

Yup. 571" at Jay. Over 400 at Stowe. Whatever the rest of the northeast got. Incredible year.

and it was spread out throughout the season. Last year was easily the most amazing spring snowfall I've ever seen, but that year it went off from start to finish with relatively few thaws

imho best ever was probably 96-97 ...

given that we're not going to get 400+" at k, for me the best scenario is consistent cold with no major thaws but below average nat snow through january so the the resorts will be forced to pump out tons of snow laying down deep bases and resurfacing. then from feb on, i want what we had last year with record nat snow into april. icing on the cake.

what about them? like i said, 00-01 is the best year i can remember. and i remember both those years.

off topic, but in 96-97 at k you could still ski the trees into may. on memorial weekend, the light was still skiable. definitely the best year in my 30+ yrs. 00-01 awesome but melted out quickly.
