Back on topic for the original post, I would never let someone else's opinion determine whether or not I want to visit a place. Even the smallest of mountains can be fun . . provided that patrol is laid back and cool, and not a bunch of dicks who yell at you if you go 3 inches off the trail (I'm talking to you, Wachusset). Plus, even if a mountain is horrible, it's worth going, purely for the experience.

Why not go the Flavor Flav route, and bump with a big gold clock around your neck?

I'll try any ski area even if it has a bad online reputation. The online influence for me is positive, I will more than likely try an area because of its online reputation.

I agree... The very fact that people whine about and praise a mountain makes me interested in checking it out...

Because - many people - complain about what they can't handle... Helps them "save face".. Rather then saying the "bumps were too tough for me" they say "It was crowded and people kept cutting my line"...
Instead of saying - "Due to my lack of ability I was forced to come down the part of the mountain all intermediates go down" they say "it was too crowded"

I don't blame Wachussett's patrol as much as others... Not skiing in the woods is part of the Crowley's permit with the state to operate the ski area (I believe) as it is a natural old growth forest. And having their permit pulled would not be a good thing for the company.

Nope, I avoided Ragged due to online rep and had a great time when I went.. Will go anywhere once regardless of online rep provided it won't be overcrowded or too expensive

I share a birthday with the legend that is Flava Flav...

March 16th should be a national holiday.

We should all be required to wear giant clocks around our neck and scream "FLAVA FLAV" at the height of our voice.

I share my birthday with the day that The Notorious BIG was shot.
March 9th should be a national holiday too. (Like a day of mourning)

Stratton & Okemo are definitely NOT where I like to ski regularly. When I have gone to each of these places lately, it's part of a ski club discount day so I'm only paying $32 for a full day. If the conditions are reasonably good, I can have a lotta fun at those places for that price.

Otherwise, I'm willing to try just about anything. I do agree that I wouldn't drive a long way to try a mountain that many folks consider mediocre (i.e. 2 hours to go to WaWa).

As a Killington season pass holder, I'm really glad that most of the world refuses to go there. Yep. It's crowded as hell. You'll get run down like a dog on the trails. The trails are nothing but flat crossovers. It's nothing but manmade groomers. No decent tree skiing to be had.

As a fellow Killington pass holder, I'll vouch for him.

From this board, I wouldn't hit up Killington or Stratton. But I skied Killington before I found this board, and this gives me cause to hit up Stratton.

And BMM needs to update a few parts of his site...last I checked, none of those places are open :p

I recall that Stratton has one real long bump run, Upper Spruce, that once you start it your stuck on it until the first trail crossover. Then Lower Spruce continues the bumps. It runs the entire length of the Snow Bowl chair. If I had to guess, I'd say it is like 8-10 Noreaster's at Sundown in length.

"Stuck" on a bump run? That's a good thing.

 Seriously, stop in for a night on your way up north sometime this season. I'll even spot you a lift ticket. We'll see if you can hang with us on the bumps for 4 hours, or whether you choose to limp over to Gunbarrel and ski big mad steezy GS turns.

Hahaha..so you only ski that one trail the entire session...lol...I'd love to hit up Sundown but the logistics are really bad since I typically leave for up north early AM and avoid Connecticut at all costs due to the traffic..

Once it's bumped? Yep. Plenty of entertainment for an evening and a helluva lot more fun and challenging than railing groomers all night.

Oh I'm not complaining, I'm just echoing some of the comments I have heard from some people who are stopped on the trail. After a bend in the trail, which most people take a break at, you're presented with a straight shot view of the rest of the run, which has to be another 1000-1500 feet of bumps. The only other recourse is to drop into the woods on either side and ski bumps with trees. It's my favorite trail at Stratton, and not usually crowded.
