for those that follow my site, just wanted to alert the skiing public that version 3.0 of the snow way is now live. after two months of decoding and recoding, $50 for a pair of books, and a bunch of time learning CSS... i have a pretty solid foundation for what i was looking for.

still a lot of crap i have to clean up, especially in the CSS sheet which looks mighty ugly, but it is fully usable and active while i clean things up and tweak things. i tested in firefox, opera, and IE7 beta. i still need to test earlier versions of IE. no idea what this thing looks like in safari since i don't have a mac to test on. lemme know if you see anything weird.

besides cleaning up the style sheet and making the css valid by w3c standards, i am still not happy with the banner image but i couldn't find many good high res photos in my collection that matched the specs when resized or cropped. still need to work on that. also soon to come, i am going to have trip reports by mountain to bring together all the various years trip reports by mountain instead of year. year will still be my main organization for reports, but i would like to catalog by mountain as well. finally, i want a form instead of an email link for contact (for obvious reason, i.e. my inbox hates me) but that is on the back burner for now. i would like seperation between the headlines on the first page without using a horizontal rule or tables but haven't researched that yet. it works for now. finally, the roll over pictures on the report pages pop up at weird angles. this is a known issue and was a forced work around IE (*$^!ing IE!!!!) because the pop ups were being covered by the thumb nail views and the depth value was being ignored by IE. thanks microsoft, 7.0 beta and you still can't get it right, go blow.

hey, enjoy the site and let me know what you think. if you do not see the new site or see older versions of any of the pages, hit refresh. looking forward to having my first report posted in less than one month. cheers!

Looking back over that I used to use your pictures to show people what "Spruce Cliffs" was like. Good thing they took that trail off the trail-map. It was just plain stupid. It would be like putting Elevator Shaft on the trail map.

Skiing the glades at Sunday River was a pure joy. Sunday River offers some of the largest and challenging tree skiing trails in New England. Check out these hair raising photos I took in the trees!
SPRUCE CLIFFS on Spruce Peak

Emphasis on Cliffs! Looking down from the top of the trail, if you call it a trail! Double Diamond is an understatement.

Further down the cliff, er, trail, looking back up to the top.

Close to the bottom, looking down to the final destination.

By the way, I am seeing double.

P.S. By the way, other than that, the site looks great.

Site looks good Steve, it sure has come a long way. I agree about the title banner though, it doesn't fit in with the quality of the rest of the site...

Hey man I don't have a problem I can quit whenever I want....

BTW, that's SAC Tracker for those interested. Look for more features coming soon... ;)

i want a form instead of an email link for contact (for obvious reason, i.e. my inbox hates me) but that is on the back burner for now.

That should be pretty easy, I whipped one together in a few minutes on my new site for the same reasons. I get enough spam as it is...

eatsleepski, thanks for posting that image. i checked the code for that particular page and it checks out okay so i am puzzled. is it like that for every page or just the one you linked to? does hitting refresh fix the problem? could i inquire what version of IE that is so i can see if i can recreate the problem on another computer with an older version of IE? thanks!

regarding spruce cliffs, i had no business being in there back in 2000. i was just getting off the groomers back then and had this desire to ski all the trails on the mountain that day. i ducked a rope to get on that trail, which was also stupid. i just didn't have good ski sense back then about those things. any ways, fully covered, that trail would be sick but back then i had no business. i am sure it is because of exploits similar to what i tried to do that they closed the trail. i am sure it makes a nice stash for those who remember.

i just checked the site out in IE5  while it did not include the page break as shown in the above image, it did not have menu roll overs, it did have a big huge empty space on every page, and the menu was not aligned in the same row. with IE7 coming out soon, i want to ensure backwards compatability for IE6, i don't think i am going to bother with IE5 though. then again, if you are using IE5, it isn't just my site that won't look right! it is acceptable though, just looks a little weird.

thanks for the comments everyone!

Maybe when you call your website The Snow Way you should actually get a picture of a mountain that is covered with snow! Nice website besides that. Do you want a picture of Mt. Washington with more snow on it? As you know I may have a few laying around. You probably want to use your own picture, right?

mount washington has snow in that pic, particularly tuckerman. yea, it isn't caked, but some of the best skiing on the rock pile is when it looks like that. gimme two months and i'll "shoot" to have a better pic for a banner. not a primary concern right now.

the thumbnails are not meant to be clickable, they are roll over pop ups. it was difficult having a method that seperated the content from the design and also leaving me the option to incorporate 475px width photos in a 750px division. i didn't want links to pics that changed the page either. the rollover was the best method. i know it is not compatible with IE5, i thought it worked in IE6 though. i will have to do some more testing.
