So the Whales actually have nothing to do with preserving snow. They blew that trail for like 2 weeks. There will be 20 feet of snow on it when they finally groom it out which will last far past the closing date of May 1. Also, I heard, that one of the winches on one of the winch cats broke. So they made a decision to winch Ripchord nightly instead of using the winch for 2 straight nights doing Steins.

I will ski in May and beyond and I like Stiens. No problem either.
This sounds good...

I saw 3 winch cats at LP the other day. I'm thinking the one from ME was brought over, although I also thought the one at ME is the one that broke (on the last day of the season at ME). So could just be that the ME one was brought to LP to work on the repairs here. Unless they had 2 separate winch cat issues (or have 3 winch cats at LP...but I thought they only had 2 on this side).

Also as an fyi, their goal for closing date is May 7th since May 1 falls on a Monday and they're trying to go for being open on the first actual weekend in May. I'm sure the snow will outlast me at this point as I doubt I'll stay up here beyond the end of April.

It's mid April- you should be thrilled with how much snow there still is.

It's all good. It's April in a snow year that we saw bearly 200 inches. Honestly I am starting to look forward to full on bike season. Skiing and hanging in the base with friends it fine but I am starting to think I might split my weekend and go ride.

Stuck in NYC this weekend...lousy timing..
Hate NYC..
At least it’s absolutely fuckin gorgeous here right now. Today is 80 with sunshine and a little breeze. It’s skirt week, the week all the pretty girls decide it’s time to wear skirts. Tomorrow will be nice too. Weekend gets a little cooler and cloudy.

I've had the windows and the sliding door going out to my deck opened here in VT since I woke up this morning. Currently 77 in my living room. 80 outside...

Crazy hot up here today. Losing snow and trails quick. CD, I'm keeping windows closed so condo doesn't get to hot. Can go weeks up here in aug without seeing these temps. Already overlapped mtn bike season back home, thinking I should overlap kayaking now. Is ice out at blueberry lake?

Bartender at rumbles confirmed a band is booked for sat. Don't know who.

Hah. I thought about that, but the fresh air is also pretty nice. I did a little while ago go downstairs in my condo to go out and take a walk. Downstairs where the only window is closed and it is partially below ground was like walking into air conditioning! I was also just texting both my dad and brother that it is hotter today than some days that we've been up here in the summer.

Also was pretty amazing how the temperature outside can vary so much in a short span. The temp probably dropped about 15 degrees right around the stream that runs down the first turn on the Out to Lunch trail. Snow is certainly disappearing fast now. But as Hawk said, it is now mid-April in a year with less than 200" of snow. Hard to complain too much at this point about snow and trail loss...
