That is correct.

Re driving to Waterbury: locals welcome the drive and chance to get out of town. You soon learn and get used to the fact that everything is an hour away. My wife and I went to Burlington for dinner just last night. No big deal.
OK Ducky. Any more details? I know it is correct.

That's interesting...although I can't tell you how many times I ran to Paradise for something that I thought was simple that they would have and then still had to run down to the valley anyway because they didn't have what I needed.

Little bit surprised that Sugarbush would have an interest in owning a deli/market.

That is probably ly not good. I can walk to paradise. Very convenient if the wife goes home for a few days and leaves me car less.
Not sure they'd want to run a deli. But it is near where they intend to build employee housing. Just an observation. I have no additional info.

It doesn't make sense that they would buy Paradise just for the real-estate. That would really suck if they don't keep it running a store/deli.

People in Burlington are way too tolerant of bad behavior. Junkies shooting up in front of kids? I guess it's okay because it's a sickness not a choice?

They own next door, doing a quick look adding the Paradise gives them a 2+ acre lot if they were to combine them.

It's better to have real property connected lot to lot than broken up.

Capt. Obvious

The more land the more control, less abuters to bitch and moan. What people don't know about they can't complain. People are going to be mad. Owning a lot of land gives them the opportunity to be mad about other things, like plain white paper or the weather; besides being mad at your conglomerate.

I get that they are right next door,... however they had to pay a premium for the land as there is an ongoing business that they bought with it. I have to believe the business itself may be worth more than the land.

For me nothing beats a Quacky 2 from Mehurons...biggest sandwich in the world for 10 bucks...

The things I miss most about the Valley as a teenager, granted this was the late 90s:

-Mehuron's subs
-Those mini donuts and sandwiches on fresh oatmeal bread from the Little Donuts company when it next to Mehurons
-Egan's (when it was good)
-Flatbread
-La Patisserie sandwiches

A few comments:

Hyde Away and Emily's are both typically open a wee bit later.

I'm surprised no one was mentioned Blue Stone. They have the best cocktails in the Valley and quite good food.

I don't know about SB buying Paradise, but their new beer hall (really a corner) is badass. I chatted with the (new?) manager of it for a while, and the concept they are developing is pretty intriguing. I'm also pretty pleased with having a place to grab a half pint apres that is slightly away from LP.

I do agree with Hawk that the MRV is a bit too sleepy these days. However, the lack of a safe way between restaurants and condos does limit the fun we can have. If SB and GMT would get together and improve bus service LP and the route 100 restaurants, it would be a good thing.

Ate at CR pub yesterday...getting a wee but expensive. They upped prices. Even added a quarter to all the beer...a frigging quarter?
Steak sandwich is good though.

I heard they plan to keep the same staff (who will now get a season pass and retirement/health ins, etc) and mostly keep it the same. It is right next door, so easy to manage, and they can build the SB/Aterra brand. They don't own Bridges, but everything else at the top of the Access Rd is now theirs. Story in the VR. Sugarbush/ Alterra to purchase Paradise Provisions

So much negativity in every post. Don't believe everything you hear on Fox. It will get you down, like discussing politics on a ski forum. (or anywhere)

Thanks for the link,… sounds like they will not be making any changes,… which is good!

I am really happy to hear about Paradise. I looked at purchasing it from Roberta but it was a bit pricey and I thought our capital was better deployed elsewhere at that point. But it is an important part of the Mountain Community in all seasons and I was pleased with what the new owner did originally. LIke so many other places getting and keeping labor is a real challenge. Sugarbush will clearly help with this and the F&B team has at least one manager who has relevant experience having been a manager at Whole Foods. Also if the additional employee housing is approved across the street this will be a huge benefit for the employees staying there. J-1s are students and do not drive.

Personally, I shop there all year and find it convenient not having to drive into Waitsfield for certain dry goods. It would be nice to see a large selection of food in the future.

It is also encouraging to see the capital Alterra is providing Sugarbush for so many different projects. Much more that I could have done.
