Listening to scanner. Sugarbush is filling water barrels. (and are running out of water)
Presumably Heavens Gate Quad load test is underway.
Some good news. Hard to think they would do a load test if they had the rumored concrete failures?

Oh that would be rich “HG load test delayed due to lack of water”.

No skin in the game, but IMHO it’s Ellen this weekend or a lynching - take your pick Mr Hammond.

The bar is pretty low at this point so I'd be happy with them allowing uphill traffic at Ellen this weekend.

Just chatted to Win for a while an hour ago with Pinnoke. Win can't get on this website due to security reasons, his browser won't allow. Perhaps the same for Bleh.
He said there had been a concrete issue with a crack right after pouring and Alterra rejected it and it was repoured to spec. He said this is not the first time they've had serious water issues and it is not unique to the MRV. They have 20m gallons which only lasts a week or so before needing to be refilled. They can't draw from the MR at all right now due to flow. Weds' rains will help. Of course, he hoped it would rain hard down low but snow up high. I didn't ask about Mt Ellen.

If he has a season pass he might discover that it does not work when he tries to use it. Ski areas don't want people promoting this kind of behavior that will lead to folks getting hurt. Especially if this guy is some kind of influencer.

I had quite the unfortunate run-in with those two last season on Murphy's. I was stopped on one of the tree/snowmaking whale islands looking for my phone which left my pocket on the previous run. I was *clearly* visible from above. Out of nowhere, I hear a "Look out!!" and Evan proceeded to hit a jump right before to me - he was close enough that his body was between the tips of my skis and my boots, and about 4 feet off the snow. He landed on the flats, folded in half and ejected out of his skis. Proceeded to get up and shout "That was awesome!!!". It took all of my strength not to choke him out then and there.
I followed up with Guest Services and patrol, making it very clear that this was more than just an "oopsie"; it was beyond reckless. It very nearly ended my season and would have put me in the hospital if he made contact at that distance/speed.
Patrol's response was to "give him a stern talking to", which didn't result in shit. The next day he was posting something cheeky on social media about "skiing in control and being respectful"

Wow, nice to get Win's up front and honest communication...a refreshing blast from the past

GMVS has their own building/lodge next to the Inverness chair.
And part of today's race entry fees goes to renting the base lodge for the 100+ visiting racers, with no services...tomorrow, too. You'd think they could make a few buck if they opened the cafeteria, but probably not stocked yet with opening day 11 days away....

Another thing I have been wondering and probably should be posting to the Stowe thread but I would be if Stowe announced Epic local passes are back on sale this week - Holiday Special - I'm willing to be they would sell hundreds of them to the greater Burlington residents and also to the local home owners in the MRV. Would result in a quick six figure revenue boost for the end of the year for them.
"Hey Sugarbush, nice chairlift you have there. Be a shame if something happened to the concrete!"

Goes to show that scuttlebutt should always be taken with a grain of salt.

One thing to note, a few years ago during a very dry January they ran the pond down to E and it took 10 days to recharge - and that was with them able to raise the weir at the Mad River and take water from it. If they aren't even allowed to do that now.... well it's going to take this upcoming rain to get snowmaking back online at LP.

What do ski resorts do with the water in the barrels once load test is complete ? It would wash out a lot of snow if they emptied them at the base terminal of the lift. Do they truck them over to the snowmaking pond ?

Dump them in the nearest creek? Load tests are normally done earlier in the year before the creeks are frozen over.

This is all very disheartening, tbh. Forecast is for 2"+ of r#$%^n wednesday. At least that will resolve the water for snowmaking issue.
Personally, I failed to convince the wife to go to BC so its SB for me for better or worse.

You dump them at the top - they don't come down. You can't load test with weight on the downhill side. Unless of course the load test is to test the regen drive for downloading as well, which this isn't.

It's a small amount of water in the grand scheme of things.
