It would be really nice if they just ran GMX and summit this weekend. They already have a "park" over there. Even with VH running it is most likely just spring fling since they haven't blown snow on anything else.
Agreed and FWIW, GMX was running stops and starts. No one loading, just going through paces.

Northstar has guns on as well

Underpromise and over deliver...a great concept, though don't know if possible for this weekend...

Nowhere now, but everywhere
We took a lap through door 3 last Saturday and the lower road was plowed, gave ourselves a nice stone grind on the exit road out opposed to hiking the last 1/4 mile out- just enough snow on it to not completely toast the bases. I believe it was similar last year for the end of the exit- ride high on the snowbank on right of the road. Woods skied great on the upper 1/3, middle section quite rocky few core shots to show for it, bottom well, should've taken another lap but the drainages mid lap were pretty rocky and ruthless. Remember no busses until the 20th plan ahead if you are venturing. Really fun lap down Lynx before heading into the backside.
Sounds like some adventure skiing, thanks for the report, good to hear people making their own fun. You gotta do what you gotta do! It sounds like the road will be much the same as it was last year, just perhaps a little more vehicular use with another added house up there. Hopefully will be snowboarder friendly as it gets quite gnarly balancing on one plank...

Personally I hope they plow and sand the shit out of the road. It will cut down on all the riff raff and grant me a seat on the bus.

The Deer Valley plan blows my mind. Like, it’s so bad it’s beyond comprehension bad. On every level. It may actually take Alterra down. Maybe that’s a good thing for Sugarbush.
Doesn’t anyone know a Billionaire who loves skiing? I mean WTF, I thought they were everywhere.
I wouldn't make any presumptions about the Deer Valley development and what it will cost Alterra. It's complicated. Definitely beyond my pay grade.

Does the Kim Kardashian cohort need 15 more chairs and 100 more groomers? Isn’t that who skis Deer Valley? Does anyone who isn’t a 2 run go in and have a hot cocoa ski Deer Valley? I mean why would you ski Deer Valley instead of oh ALTA or SNOWBIRD?

I guess, but is that who they are building 15 chairs for? Hard to believe that’s who they are trying to attract. Does the $5k/night crowd at the st Regis ski the woods? I means I honestly don’t know, never been. I’m sure it’s awesome, I’d love to ski it.

Lots of vacationing families who spend money wouldn’t know what to do at Alta snowbird.

DV is fun for a dial it back day on a Utah trip. But I’d only go because it’s “free”

Is it doable to mix day Solitude/Brighton a few days and a few days at Deer Valley? Never been but thinking of maybe this Feb. either there or Steamboat.

If you have a car, yes. Though geographically they are close, you have to drive back to SLC and then up BCC to get to Brighton/Solitude.

Isn’t the canyon drive sketchy? What if you did 2 nights stay in park city the 2/3 nights say at the Marriot at the start of the Canyon? Doable? Stupid. If DV has good woods etc, maybe it would be worth it since my wife loves the good life like a Kardashian.

I heard there has been a lot of chatter but haven’t read or commented, so I will start off with a positive comment. Today was a real pleasant surprise. The Snowpack after yesterday’s rain held up really well on all the trails, and pushover and slowpoke groomed out much better that I had feared. The natural trails have a good firm base, so I would not be surprised if patrol opens some of them soon. The river has come up to the level when the pond can be refilled and snowmaking began on Valley Traverse, Snowball and Spring Fling and the temps over the next few days look very favorable. My educated guess is that will allow them to open them baring any break, mostly likely ungroomed with some big whales for the weekend. I understand that Bravo is set to go, so I would not be surprised if Bravo turns and one can get to Snowball via Valley Traverse. But that is my guess not from an official source. This allows Allyn’s Lodge to be used and maybe even opened. I also understand there has been a lot of misinformation about HG. It was announced that the lift was officially turned over to Sugarbush from Dopplemayr. That means the load test has been completed and it now just needs an official inspection from the Vermont Tram Authority. In my days there were only two or three inspectors in the State so it is a question of getting scheduled, but all should be ready for the inspection if Sugarbush accepted the lift. One comment on snowmaking. My first year of ownership in 2001 we had a “100 year drought” and were out of snowmaking for a couple of weeks. State legislation requires that water can not be withdrawn from surface water (eg a river) if it is below the February Mean level. That was the case in 2001 and recently. During my ownership there were a couple of years where this happened for a day or two but the river came up with rain as has happened this time. The sources at ME are different and the pond near Inverness rarely runs dry so even if the streams which are another source are below the mean level, snowmaking out of the pond can continue. The big news at ME is that Inverness is done and open and the new snowmaking investment has the rest of the mountain in good shape so the opening the weekend of 12/20 should be very nice. (OK now you can all comment about why it isn’t open). I answered that many times in the past, but not my role to comment today. Looking forward to Day 5 tomorrow.
