all sorts of unmarked glades on castlerock but def more than you are after

i agree big birch and wild turkey kinda stink

id try gangsters grotto and egan's next. i really like tumbler woods at ellen. the woods on either side of brambles too.
Where's the natural entrance and exit to Egan's? Is the entrance off of Murphy's or is it off of VH traverse. I've seen many folks jumping into the woods off of VH traverse. Also, is the natural exit to Egan's on Lower Birdland?

yep, halfway down after crossing the groomer below FIS. theres a creek in the middle (prob filled in now), mellow open glades on both sides, but moreso to skier's left. also a teepee

Between Looking Good and Rim Run. Fair warning that there's a large tree down across the main route from the primary entrance at the corner of those trails (or at least there was last weekend). Easy to avoid if you stick left as long as you're not flying in thinking you know the first few turns.

the unmarked woods that are skier's right of the ellen summit chair are also really approachable. they'd be blue graded imo.
Hope you're talking about going in by Looking Good/Rim Run and not going in at the very top on the Long Trail. The top is definitely experts only and can easily lead you away from lift served terrain if you follow gravity and the fall line.

ive only skied slidebrook a handful of times, off of lynx. most of the time i dont want to wait for a bus back. it feels very obvious from lincoln. i just dont know fuck all about the routing from ellen. would be curious if there's any good skiing that brings me back to ellen lifts and not into slide brook tho...

entrance to Mellen Slide is at elbow of Rim Run after it passes Scotch Mist/Looking Good. Do not go alone or with someone whose never done it before. Very few who know how to get around the few ravines it can dump you in.

not that I've ever experienced unless lower Moose to lower FIS - nothing to the skies right of FIS will get you back to MEllen lifts short of a very long slog uphill . ..

Unless you ski the woods to the skiers left of Lower FIS, you will not be able to ski back to the lifts. Everything to the Right drains down into the stream beds and eventually you will find your way to the bus....Eventually.....Unless you hike up like 1Dog says.

Skied The Mother off ME years ago. Big fun, and worked our way south as we went, ending up at the bus where we had left a vehicle. Went with guys who had been there before, which is excellent advice. Not a place for solo newbies

Excellent point about skiing this area solo. Chances are that nobody will hear your whistle out there because so few drop off the long trail. When the day comes that you are done racking up vert and more into the adventure quest for powder, you will grow to love this area with a bud or two. There is nothing better in the east.

I've said this before here and have had generous offers from fellow posters to guide me. Even though I've been a Sugarbush skier for 15+ years, I've never skied Slidebrook. There's a couple of reasons. 15 years ago, I skied a ton with my kids (who were great skiers, but young at the time) and my wife who wasn't such a great skier. I never wanted to put them in a situation that could potentially get bad. Now I mostly ski solo and don't know my way around Slidebrook well enough to risk it alone. I suspect I'd be fine, but there's plenty in bounds stuff that keeps me busy. Every season, I say to myself that I'm going to take a lesson and have them take me into SB. I just never get around to it. Maybe this is the year!

i can only speak to my limited experience as accessing from north lynx. very obvious lines, pretty damn mellow and well travelled tree skiing.

would you more well versed people agree with the assessment as accessed from lincoln side?

Mellow - yes. Well traveled - absolutely not... excepting the in-road from north lynx and the out-road down to the bus. Not saying anything more!

Just saw that the 2:45 report says HG & NL lifts closed for the day, 1st time I checked the report, perhaps they were down all day. I'm not skiing today, so I don't know about the wind situation, all the say is closed "boy oh boy"...
