what would it matter Riv, you would need to know me to know my perspective. and its just one perspective. however, with regard to the NEK ski places being damned if they do or don't your wrong. I have said it a number of times, a number of ways, they need to stay alive, they need new infrastructure, they need snow making, they need to market their character, I have no problem with any of it, get money from malaysia and china, the UK, great idea for all I know. but don't stand there facing one way speaking to everyone as if your doing them a favor while turning the other way and laying down red carpets for people trying to find their inner selves through a ski resort because they have thousands of dollars to spend.

IMO, you shouldn't need to remind yourself or others who you are, your actions and choices reflect that just fine. JPR chose bigger, they are choosing it for burke, their character is changing, one that will rely on clientele that have little interest in what makes the NEK special IMO.

the homogeny of these 2 resorts isn't for the character, its at the expense of its character. the burke poster shows it nicely, so much more shunning the corporate and plastic huh?.

SBR- the mountain hasn't changed. the rest will be what it is.

same sunrise its been since I first climbed this Mt 20 years ago.

Shunning the corporate? What the hell does that even mean.

NEWSFLASH TO BURKE MOUNTAIN MARKETING DEPARTMENT: You're a business too, you morons.

We've got a day trip going to Burke on Saturday, March 9th. I'm expecting a little extra attention (free) from the staff. You are welcome to join us!

I'm looking forward to your TR- Burke is one placed I'd like to try but always seem to get derailed before I get all the way there.

I think it is funny that people are getting all wound up over a single poster/ad that was in the corner of Mid-Burke Lodge.....

Personally I'd prefer to here how the skiing was rather than pontificating over a piece of marketing that was relegated to the corner of the lodge.

+10 TB!

Well, let's see TB, I'll do a quickie TR.

Last Thursday Feb 21st, Mass. school vacation week. I'll write this in reverse chronological order. Light snow/squalls all day, just enough to freshen things as they day went along. They had about 4" before that. I had a good time; managed to get around most everywhere. The lack of much traffic kept the surfaces from getting scraped. However, even the stuff that looked scratchy held an edge pretty well. I spent a lot of time on "natural" trails. From what I can gather, a number of these trails didn't have enough snow to open until now. Still not enough snow to send a groomer up, so they bumped up naturally. Nice soft. Snow was a nice, dry packed powder on groomers. Lots of fresh tracks could be found all day on the sides. Even still, fussy people stayed away from the "thin cover" signs. Those trails were the most fun. Using a little common sense, (ski around rocks, doh) (ski on grass when necessary) the trails were cool. I'd say East Bowl had the best snow, bumped up all the way down. Reminded me of Castlerock. By the end of the day, I was quite pleased at how I was just navigating the natural, random bumps with rhythm. The older I get, the longer the runout on East Bowl is!

The woods were rather bony. They were fun, but the dirt and rocks gave very little choices where to turn, so I bagged the woods.

I'm taking a club group back on the 9th. Anyone is welcome to tag along. We're doing a mountain tour and get some race commentary when the BMA athletes practice. We'll be hanging around for dinner and doing some other free things. Let me know if you are interested.

Oh and BTW, there are not annoying teens there smoking and swearing and generally making life unpleasant. Caveat, this is a very small minority of teenagers.

50 Olympians can't be wrong.

Seems like they may need to get more lifts, the HSQ doesn't seem to be getting the job done.

Such a great ski day, maybe not the ultra stimulating that people seem to need, just great, relaxing, fun skiing with our families. I guess I think more people might appreciate a simple experience like the one we have had a thousand days there, including today.

thanks Burke.

I'm leading (herding) a group from the club for the day. Join us. next Saturday the 9th. We start the day with a custom mountain tour. Car pools are now forming from metro Boston and points north. Seats are limited. I also can get my hands on a couple of dirt cheap vouchers. Who can say "no" to cheap?
