Lostone, I read your post about half groomed and half ungroomed last night to tired to respond. I thought you point was good and one I had not considered. I do see people grabbing the edge of the moguls and bailing out into the trail. I still like the 1/2 and 1/2 groomed and ungroomed. I stay away from the moguls edge others might consider that as well.

IMNATHO, I think "All Mountain" is a marketing term.

Most definitely - and quite confusing to us beginners. The Elan web site calls the S-series "All-Mountain / Precision", half of the M-Series "All Mountain / Cruiser", describes the entire M-Series as their "All-Terrain Ski", and then calls the A-Series "All Mountain / Sport Performance" (but gears it towards advanced beginners).

Apparently you have to completely ignore labels and just know what dimensions and construction you want.

here is a basic idea for dimensions i got from skiing mag 80-110mm waist is a big mountain powder ski(so u dont need it in the east) 68-80mm all terrian ski decent at pretty much everything, thats what i have. 64-70mm Carving ski. 62-67mm racing ski. Also big mountain skis are the longest 195 max and racing are the shortest 155.
