Bagged it today...still freezing out there..no new snow..prolly hard as steel.
When i lived in vt..i went no matter what.

I tend to ski every day on a trip. Some days, just longer than others.... I'll pay attention to the weather and if it's looks like a powder day is on deck the following day, I may just dial back the day before and cruise some groomers for 1/2 a day.

I did 12 days in a row last April in Spring conditions at Okemo and Mount Snow that ranged anywhere from STICKY Spring snow to classic corn, and definitely limited the number of runs I did on those STICKY days verses I had a corn snow day at Okemo where I went basically bell to bell with only maybe a 15 minute lumch break and racked up almost 45k verts.

Also IMHO there is something to be said for early in the season, even on less than ideal days, just getting out on the hill, and staying out on the hill for a while, and racking up the number of hours in your boots and making turns to help get your ski legs ready for later in the season when you might be going on a longer trip and/or have better snow conditions where you want to stay out to last chair..... especially as I progess through my middle aged years.....

On my up coming trip taking 2 days off from downhill. 1 day to take a snow van/cat into Yellowstone to see old faithful and 1 day to xcountry up in the west Yellowstone area. 7 days of skiing. 2 on/1 off / 4 on/ 1 off/ 1 on.

I can ski day after day for weeks, I only need a break if I stay up and drink too much

As a recent retiree I’m loving life and going every weekday possible now. Need to plan a long trip away from New England but last couple of weeks have been great here

Corn snow, milder temps and sun is probably the only way I could go bell to bell. The sticky snow of which you speak is really a burner on the legs. If you ever parked or accessed Snowmass from the Twin Creeks base you know that the run back down to the bottom concludes with a pretty long run out. In that sticky snow and the speed in shady areas to the glue in the sun, plays havoc with the thigh muscles on the last stretch.

Slightly OT but one thing that is starting to slow me down at times is vision. Sunny days, good vision I'm good but flat light, overcast sky or fog is now starting to hinder me. If I can stick to the tree line or even better ski in the trees I'm fine but out on the open trail I really tense up and do not ski my best. Skiing tense is also very exhausting.

With no new snow this week and sub zero temps...I bagged it most of this week. Frozen groomers not my thing.
At least not any more.

Last year we were out west bouncing around ski areas and the schedule was 2 ski days, one drive day, 2 ski days, one drive day, 2 ski days, fly home the next day. Really nice pace but even then by day 6 my legs were barking.

This year out west we’ll have a straight 5 days of skiing in March. I’ll try to get conditioned for that.

Day 18 today. Did a lot of conditioning prior to thanksgiving, since then, not so much. Taking a week plus off for real life stuff, plan to hit the weights and pool daily until I get back here.

i pretty much stopped lifting but i am still running 3 miles every day that i dont ski

i set a new years resolution to start lifting again and pulled somethng in my back on day 3. hurt for a week. havent gone back to the weights. maybe after ski season.
