Despite skiing up on the Washington three times before (10k Vert Day!, Great Gulf- May 22nd, 2009, Hillman's Highway- May 3rd, 2008) this was my first time in the bowl itself. Pics don't do the place justice.
Anyways, buddy couldn't drive his Dad's car up and I recently sold my truck, so we were stuck to hiking… probably for the better too since everyone would be up on the Auto Road for its first weekend open. Got up at 5am and started hiking a little bit after 6. Set a decent pace up and were the first skiers into the bowl. Headed over to Left Gully where the snow looked best and took two runs there; probably close to 500 vert of smoothness. Had lunch and chilled for awhile, then headed up towards right gully. Some undermining snow in the area made the hike over a bit sketchy, Right skied pretty nice, I'd say even when we hit it after lunch time were we only the 5th skiers of the day to be there. Skied to almost the base of the bowl, then headed back up for another. Skied Sluice, packed my backpack back up then continued on down the mountain.
Tukerman Ravine seems like a great place with a lot of friendly people. Met a lot of cool people too.
But more importantly here are the pics.
He is the tele skier ripping it up in the photos and I am the regular skier.
