ALL of the east coast recieves 24" of powder. ( Wachusset to Jay lets asume its 20" everywhere) Every mountain is open, and at every mountain every trail and lift is open. Coverage is awsome everywhere. It seems like everywhere would be the perfect place. BUT theres a catch. Its a saturday and lets assume every mountain has a large amount of crowds. Killington, Jay, Burke it doesnt matter. It is a crowded day at every mountain. What mountain would you go to and why? You must consider how much terrain they have to disperse crowds, and how well there lift configuration deals with crowds.

Assuming I'm day tripping, probably either Beast, Catamount or Magic.

Even though I have never been, Saddleback. The T-bar and lack of crowds will keep it fresh the whole day. Can I pick the GoS assuming it won't avalance and kill me? Can anyone imagine the awesomeness of the GoS with two feet of untracked pow.

If the Slides where open at Whiteface that would be a no brainer for me. If not I might actually consider Gore. They have very extensive glades and great liftline skiing after a dump like that. You'd be suprised.

taking the assumption that every area is crowded then my answer would have to be a killington, sugarbush or WHITEFACE type place that has alot of uphill capacity and alot of places to hide from the crowds. I'd prefer a magic or mrg but if they're bustin at the seams, you're gonna be waitin a long time to get uphill.

Funny thing, east coast recieves 20+", you don't have to worry about crowds anywhere. Funny how many "skiers" are scared of snow. :)

I was thinking about that too. Many of the smaller mountains that cater to a generally novice/intermediate crowd may not have anyone show up. But those mountains know that and therefore tend to groom the pow so their usual guests can still ski. Oh the horror.

awf...your such a troublemaker... If you have learned anything here it should be that you don't want to venture in the backcountry without other people, a transeiver for everybody and know how to use it plus after 2' of fresh snow you should assume the avi danger is high.

If it's a busy Sat you want a ski hill that is spread out, that allows people to move away from the base instead of having people return to the base after most runs. The Bush would be good. I agree that Saddleback would also work in that it's too far for day trips from most population centers plus I think they get more snowmobilers than skiers up there.

only marked trails? ouch. that is an unreasonable limit. i would have to give burke a slight advantage over jay in that case as even the busiest day at burke will not see every seat on the lifts filled so there will be less competition at burke than almost any where else. saddleback is a good option, but the lift line for the TBar would be long and there are not a ton of expert trails to disperse traffic... also, not a ton of glades. jay would obviously be packed, but even without the unmarked glades, jay has a ton of gladed terrain with tons of options. with two feet of snow, i would assume avi conditions would be high and any avi terrain would be a definite no no. magic would also be a good choice. just like burke, even the busiest day at magic does not fill up every seat on every chair. i would also add black mountain as a good option, you'd be getting fresh tracks every run because most skiers would be skiing at sunday river, attitash, wildcat, or bretton woods in that neck of the woods.

I'd go to the Loaf. I'd Take a run or two off the Superquad after waiting in line since 7:30 (King's Landing and Hayburner). Then I'd head down Narrow Guage or Comp Hill (depending on which looks better) and head up Spillway longside. I'd take a run or two off longside until the crowds catch up, then either head over to King Pine or do laps on Spillway shortside. This isn't really theoretical. This is what I actually do on pow days :)

Sugarbush - I would have timed my travel to the Valley to be there ahead of the storm and be on the first chair. I would much rather spend a "crowded" day at Sugarbush than any alternative

Thats the god honest truth. My one true pow day this past season was in mid feb at Gore where we got about a foot over the course of a day. The glades there are incredible. Double Barrel rocked my world every run I took as well.
