Uphill access?

I know that A-Basin, Loveland, and Breck state that you have to get a free uphill access pass, and then you can hike/snowshoe/skin up and ski down whenever the lifts aren't spinning. You can even take your dog with you for A-Basin and Breck.

This matter seems to have been tolerated for the lack of a better word by resorts for a while, but now mountains are officially allowing it.

Have east coast ski area's officially started allowing this?

Off the top of my head, Wildcat and Bretton Woods both allow it.

I think this is pretty much a bad idea to allow actually, as the people who use their heads usually aren't putting that effort in to ski an inbounds run. The folks that do do this, usually are the types of guys and gals that prefer to be heard and seen, which often leads to problems. Went through this scenario here a few years back here in Jackson, turned into a legal cuffufle cause the guy was deliberately trying to prove a point about something no one cares about.

Yes it sounds like $20 for a season hiking pass.

Whooops. I guess I 'technically' hiked up Killington two days ago without the pass because I thought I could get to the peak lodge from the top of the canyon quad (peak walkway was closed) without taking the gondola (long line!!). My family and I sidestepped quite a way up the mountain on Great Northern... oh well, I'm just a stupid, occasional visiter from Massachusetts lol :razz: :razz:

But seriously, on another note--Killington should inform visitors that you have to take the gondola to access their new Peak Lodge on the trail map, but whatever... the food was rewarding!!:-D

Yes, it came out just a few days ago.
And it's also a real setback for those of us interesting in resort "uphilling": the largest ski resort in Eastern North America is restricting skinning to an area the equivalent of Wachusett in terms of vertical and skiable terrain.

All he wanted to do was watch his daughter run NASTAR.
Since he wasn't interested in skiing that day, he was just skinning up to the base of the race course.
For this he was arrested, handcuffed, and forcibly brought down in a ski patrol sled.
All charges were dropped for obvious reasons, including that he was such a prominent local citizen, an outside special prosecutor would have be appointed, as everyone else was conflicted out.
