WSJ reported today that we will see a large uptick in merchandise being unloaded on overstock.com and similiar. I am hopeful that feeds into some of the outdoor and skiing retailers too, such as the feeds here. Having said that, I hope it does so, without driving any of them out of business.

Thanks for the heads up on the article.

This will be interesting to see. I was at the ski shop two weeks ago and asked the manager how business has been. He said it's been excellent. He went on say that for their shop, business is usually pretty steady despite the economy: "People still want to have fun." Again, just one observation. I'm sure location and shop size may play into things.

I am always suspicious of secondary motives, since I hang with a lot of marketeers now.
Who wouldn't want to say business is great? They want you to feel good about their shop. Now go back and ask him/her for specific numbers and see what is said...

Also the cost of lodging is most likely to be flat or down..hotels would rather book rooms at a discount than let them sit vacant..

The Boston Globe is reporting some downward price pressure at resorts. Even Stowe is offering a lodging "discount".

Killington espoused the same optimistic outlook as they did on another thread here at AZ. Living in a-la land. I just received first hand knowledge of more layoffs. And they ARE skiers.

.

A ski buddy priced out a three night stay at the new slopeside hotel at Stowe including lift tickets for two people and it was like $2,000 and that's not for a suite..just a basic room..they better let you keep the bathrobes for that price..and have the steeziest showercaps ever...doh!!!!

I wish we still had an EMS Eastern Mountain Sports but it closed down 2 years ago. They always had great deals on ski socks like buy one pair get the second half off a price that was alread alot less money then a boutique ski shop. I go to a local mom and pop shop for things like ski repair. They have brought beat to skeet coreshot galore skis back to life. I'm going to see if my Atomic LT11s are salvageable..I hit the Marquee route at Blue on those and they don't have the float of fat twins with 66mm underfoot. Thanks to the internet the days of paying $20 for ski socks and $130 for goggles are a thing of the past..
