My home network is unsecured, but I have a situation similar to what trekchik said early where I live in the country, and with a few acres around my house, I'm not worried. I've actually walked the 2 sides of my property that have adjoining neighbors with my lap top and have been unable to get a signal at the point where my property line gets closest to my neighbors (even got a little poison ivy during that experiment :( )

At my place in VT, I usually use either the unsecured network in Mount Snow's base area or at the community building of my townhouse complex (still awaiting for Verizon to get it's wireless card coverage into the West Dover area ), but if certain of my neighbors are up at their place and they have their wireless router turned on, I've have been able to get online via their unsecured network

I didn't start encrypting my wireless until i started working from home.
Now I have to because my agreement with work..

My wireless for my work computer is encrypted as well. The gf's laptop we just steal a signal from whoever in the neighborhood. It's definitely slower, but it's free.

i haven't done it recently but i used to leave my laptop running in the back seat of the car while driving and run a program that "detects" wireless networks. usually 50% of the networks seen didn't have security running on them.

Just for sh!ts and giggles? Isn't that a bit on the creepy side of things?
