This morning Attitash posted that Bear Peak/Flying Bear/Kachina/Abenaki would not open today due to unforeseen circumstances. Then they deleted it and Bear Peak opened. Strange.

Also that lodge is a nice mix of a prison, elementary school, and one of those big southern churches that looks like a warehouse. Ugly as all hell inside and out. Not really an inviting bar space either, literally just a wall set up between the main dining area and a few high tops and small bar.
could not agree more - the Crotched lodge is depressing AF

Definitely ugly, but super functional; especially the downstairs area to boot up and the rental shop.

I'm not surprised they went with a cheap structure. Place had been closed for well over a decade. It was a gamble that it would be sustainable upon reopen. Though it would be nice to see a replacement that's more aesthetically pleasing, I doubt we ever see that.

Who gives a rat's ass about a ski lodge's "aesthetics? I boot up in my car, never eat in a lodge, only really care if it has functional bathrooms if needed. Hell, Mt. Abram's main lodge has been a frickin' tent for the last 14 years, but the place is my favorite smaller ski area. Abram's terrain is better than Crotched's, but the "Way Back machine" is far from being a rocket! Just wish that the trees were able to be open more often at both areas!
Yes, the exterior of Crothed's lodge is fugly, but it completely serves its purpose.

Pat's is for sure my favorite base lodge in all of New England. The only thing that surprises me about Pat's is I think the recent addition off the back was kind of a waste. It's gorgeous and fits in well with the original space, but it's basically just a massive open staircase. They would have been better served to have designed it with smaller stairwells and additional seating areas on the second and third floors.

Saddleback, BW, and Ragged are all excellent base lodges I enjoy spending time in. BW and Saddleback both have incredible views you can stare at and enjoy a beer.

LoL, nobody ever suggested the lodge was a make or break aspect to a ski area, just that when a lodge has a nice aesthetic it's... nice. I've always appreciated A-basins huge A-frame lodge.

i barely ever go inside so its pretty much a non factor for me

but i LIKE going inside at plattekill (70s retro center fireplace) and magic (black line tavern and jambandia)

those are the things that will make me want to go inside, maybe even spend money. authenticity.

the lodges at snowbasin are pretty swank. i went inside to poop at a top lodge (also rare, mid ski day poop, horrifying. ski boots. many layers. the worst). fancy fuckin poop tho.

They basically added that to add an elevator and new bathrooms for weddings not skiing. Before there was no way to get from the parking lot into the building.

Right, but there's that giant open space and super wide stairwells that just kinda seem like a waste. Might have been able to have a bit more seating capacity instead of just "air" and ten foot wide stairwells. They did do a fantastic job with it from an aesthetic POV. Maybe they felt they didn't need more seating. Could be so. I've never had an issue with finding a seat, but I avoid peak times

unexpected maintenance challenge: https://www.reddit.com/r/icecoast/s/79QEgwp850

Bobcat Lift Update: The Bobcat lift will be closed today due to an unexpected maintenance challenge with our top lift house and the communication line. We are working to resolve this as quickly as possible. At this time we only have the snowbelt open for learning terrain. If you are looking for additional progressive terrain our sister resort up the street, Attitash, is open for skiing and riding and your day ticket is valid at both mountains. Thank you for your patience and understanding.

Well if they need to bulldoze the entire executive board, I hear Wildcat has just the guy they're looking for.

Also LMFAO at "unexpected maintenance challenge". Reminds me of the day the green line crashed and the MBTA tweeted out that there is a delay because two trains "unintentionally coupled".
