Will post some up after skiing today hopefully. Sun Up and Sun Down bowls are open as is most of the front. China Bowl set to open tomorrow and Blue Sky basin set to open on Friday. There are over 2500 acres open (about 1/2 the mountain). Should be up to 4000 acres open by the weekend. Groomers are soft and sweet. Bumps are soft. Trees are fresh. There is NOBODY here. Had Sun Up Bowl to ourselves yesterday.

Snow in the forecast everyday and night this week. Fingers x-ed. Here till Monday.

I like it all out here. The front is great, the back is great, Blue Sky basin is great. We're loving it all and nobody is here.

Sorry to hear about the NCP back home. Guess we picked the right week to head to Colorado.

Agreed. Except the frontside does have its moments, just not "wow" moments.

Yeah-Frontside: Sameness
Backbowls: Sweetness sometimes (terrible, below tree-lines exposures makes non-powder-days, and longer daylight post January days not so sweet in the back bowls!)
Blue Sky Basin-pretty sweet, I admit, wish it had something a little more aggresive than 'Lover's Leap' but, exposures are good and terrain is fun.

Vail in total....yeah, I'm one of those grouches who is down on the "disney-fication' of skiing, at least paying the premium that comes along with it ($80.00+ and 15 to park..Yikes!).

But, I imagine if it's empty right now-that's a lot of terrain to get to enjoy to yourself! Glad it's a good trip for you, Jersey Joey (it's getting a little wet and lean out this way!).

Not sure if they still do it, but earlier this decade, we used to get 2-for-1 Vail tickets with a coupon at Arby's.....The catch is, you have to go to Arby's.

Luckily, friends went to Arby's for me and had the coupon upon my arrival.

To each his own I guess.

I love it here. It ain't Jackson, but it's pretty awesome for some early season turns. Off to breakfast and first gondi. Maybe a report to follow after skiing today. Lifts open in an hour. Outta here!!

Joey,

I was supposed to be there this week, but I decided to save some dough. Are you there with the Gentleman's Ski Trip?

Do you believe there are people on here that think the front side is "boring" and "sameness". You kidding me? .... bumps, chutes, woods - you gotta know where to go is all. Yea, the bowls and Blue Sky are triple aaawesome, but the front is longer, harder, steeper with more variety than um *anyplace* here in the east......:stirpot:

one of my first western trips was to vail and being an easterner i thought it was unbelievable, disneyization aside. then after hitting other western areas, i didn't care for it so much. but the opening of blue sky changed all that. love it. could use a bit more challenge but trees, bumps, fresh pow, just some great skiing ...

Wings at the Red Lion too are outta this world..

Used to be a bunch of Massholes tending bar in there a few years back. They had a tin foil replica of the Pats' Lombardi trophy set up behind the bar. We had some fun with them.

I've only done Vail on day trips when doing the Summit County thing and only when all of the back bowls where open. I always had a good day there. I did hit it one day when it was real crowded, but the bowls side really wasn't that crowded at all.
