Not sure if they still do it, but earlier this decade, we used to get 2-for-1 Vail tickets with a coupon at Arby's.....The catch is, you have to go to Arby's.

Luckily, friends went to Arby's for me and had the coupon upon my arrival.

Arby's is delicious. So is Vail.

Speaking of Vail and delicious, the best chili I ever had was at the top of Blue Sky (I think) at the Two Elk Lodge out on the picnic table on a sunny March day. Believe it was Bison chili...so good.

Try the chili at Bart & Yeti's in the Lionshead base area next time you're out there. Best I ever had.

Not Blue Sky, but it is at the mouth of the bowls, and I've never had it, but I can recall the smell of it just by your mention, and it seemed awesome.

But if you like Arby's, then......

I am a sucker for melty processed cheese on just about anything, including roast beef + buttery rolls.

As for my culinary pallette, I've discovered that I like things at the poles of the prepared food spectrum. Either an expensive steak house, italian/indian/french place, ($40+ per person or more) or Arby's/White Castle/A&W/Taco Bell, etc...the crap in between is what I generally don't like...though I can usually find something I like, even at TGIFridays (tall Guiness and those pot stickers)

Another fantastic day. I don't understand how anyone could be bored with "front" of Vail. If you are, then you just don't know where to ski.

Spent a good part of today on the Northwoods and Highline Chairs. Chutes, steeps, trees, cliffs, bumps, we had it all and the snow was fantastic. Also did Sundown Bowl (which was a bit crunchy at the very top, and Sunup Bowl, which was freakin' awesome from top to bottom. Did Sunup 3 or 4 times.

Runs of the Day (for those that know Vail):

Everything in SunUp Bowl
North Rim
South Rim
Prima
Prima Cornice
Pronto

Pumphouse
The Narrows
(Both of these were closed and we poached 'em. Bad move. Pumphouse was ok but The Narrows was nowhere near ready yet. We will not poach again on this trip. Scary shit. We survived, but it was a stupid move. Closed for good reason.)

Log Chute
Klickety Klack.

Hit up Bart and Yeti's last night for dinner and got Buffalo Cheeseburgers. Passed on the Chili.

Looks like snow on the way again 2nite and for the rest of the week. Glad we're here in Colorado. Looks like the weather in the east kinda blows. Sorry to hear that.

More to follow.....

Bad move indeed. With our current snowpack (faceted layer under everything) your lucky you didn't get killed, hurt or arrested.

A bit of advise, stay off closed slopes, there is a reason they are closed.

And yes in Colorado if you get caught, good chance you are going to jail. If you do, PM me, my wife is a criminal defense lawyer.

We're staying in Lionshead. We do every year.

Gonna hit up Billy's Island Grill tonight and Pepi's in Vail Village tomorrow night. Love Pepi's. We hit it every year. Great game over there. Elk, Caribou, Venison, Buffalo Carpaccio, etc.

On your recommendation, we'll try Vendetta's. Thanks for the tip.

Colorado Ski Safety Act (CSSA) imposes a maximum $1000 fine for ducking ropes. No jail.

CSSA said:
33-44-107 (3) No skier shall ski on a ski slope or trail that has been posted as "Closed" pursuant to section 33-44-107 (2) (e) and (4).

33-44-107 (12) Any person who violates any of the provisions of subsection (3), (9), (10), or (11) of this section is guilty of a class 2 petty offense and, upon conviction thereof, shall be punished by a fine of not more than one thousand dollars.

Yeh. Bart & Yeti's is the coolest place in Lionshead for apre ski. Nice spring sun outside too. What's it like with that new structure that replaced the gonola base?

Lionshead has been built up beyond belief. It's doubled in size since last season. There are new condos and shops and bars/restaurants everywhere. They even built a nice outdoor skating rink right in the middle of it above the gondi building. It's all very nice with a modern European theme to the whole Village. Very different from Vail Village with its older buildings.

China and Siberia Bowls are set to open today with Blue Sky Basin set to come online tomorrow or saturday. There's a ton of untouched powder in Blue Sky Basin. We saw it from the top of Sunup Bowl. Gonna take our best shots at being the first ones over there when they open it. There's prolly 3 feet of fresh in those trees. Gonna be a hoot.

Will try to post up pics after skiing today.

If you don't mind dropping the bucks and want to experience one *fine* dinner with quite the wine list to choose from, treat yourself to dinner at Larkspur in the Golden Peaks base lodge.

Billy's Island Grill was awesome last night and they are running an early season special as well. 30% of all entrees and all bottles of wine. The food was great and the "discounted" pricing really iced the cake. Bacon wrapped filet smothered in lump crabmeat and bernaise. Awesome steak indeed.

Still have to hit up Pepi's (need my game fix), but we may check out Larkspur as well. I just looked at the menu in the dining guide. You ain't kidding when you say "dropping the bucks." Wowza!!

We have 4 more nights here, so we'll do what we can.

true, but you are still getting locked up for the afternoon.

Rode a chair with 2 ski patrollers today and I asked them about going to jail for poaching. Both said they never heard of it happening. Loss of lift ticket, yes. Suspension of season pass, yes. Possible safety meeting with patrol, yes. Jail, no. Neither one of them backed up what you're saying about going to jail. I'm not saying it's never happened because I don't know. These 2 patrollers said they never heard of it happening. Gotta take their word for it.

Anyway, another awesome day in Colorado. Maybe a report in the am. Gonna be strange watching Thurs Nite Football at 6pm. Anyway, off to the tub.
