Yup, that was what I was inferring. Get all the random impact studies about 13 red spot inch worms out of the way and start bringing in the heavy equipment and truck loads of gravel/fill and let the highly skilled local operators do their thing with the main role of the gov't being writing a check
Yes, that is how it works all the time for road maintenance and repairs. Are you under the impression it ordinarily takes an Act 250 permit put down hardpack? When a culvert failed on 89 in Richmond last year they had crews starting work two days after the sinkhole appeared. It took a while to finish, but that was because the culvert was fifty feet underground, not because anyone was sitting in their hands waiting. If you don't know what you're talking about why don't you shut up and leave us out of your libertarian wet dreams.

Threat Level Mid Night.

When I met you in the restaurant
You could tell I was no debutante
You asked me what's my pleasure
"A movie or a measure?"
I'll have a cup of tea
And tell you of my
Dreamin', dreamin' is free
Dreamin', dreamin' is free
I don't want to live on charity
Pleasure's real or is it fantasy?
Reel to reel is living rarity
People stop and stare at me
We just walk on by
We just keep on dreamin'
Beat feet, walking a two-mile
Meet me, meet me at the turnstile
I never met him, I'll never forget him
Dream, dream, even for a little while
Dream, dream, filling up an idle hour
Fade away (woo), radiate
I sit by and watch the river flow
I sit by and watch the traffic go
Imagine something of your very own
Something you can have and hold
I'd build a road in gold just to have some

This too will pass. Not much we can do.

Too much rain
Too much grade
Not much soil on the ledges.

OK so if you want to split hairs, that was a federally funded project because it is an interstate highway. So on emergency projects like that they can bypass the usual rules. I think that is a bad example for this situation. I will say that because of the overwhelming damage, the state deamed this a disater and is looking for federal disaster relief funds. I don't know if this was approved yet but it will be. Anyway I think that also triggers the approval bypass thing.

People who follow the rules do not have a political affiliation. They are rule followers. As much as I hate following the rules, I think it is complete bullshit that people stereotype things and politsize them. VT created act 250 becasue so many construction projects in the past fucked up all kinds of things. In some cases they affected drinking water supplies. Sometimes (not all the time) rules are good.

Emergency construction is usually completed under an emergency permit. Rules are loosened, not completely thrown out the window. I work in the transportation engineering field, Specifally water resource permitting, and there is usually a 2 staged approach. Stage 1 get the facility back open and stabilized (sometimes that might be it, if its a culvert failure) There is usually some federal and state oversite to make sure the temporary fix isn't completely ignoring some basic "rules". Stage 2 construct the permanent fix and meet all State and Federal permit requirements. most streams "of any sizeable nature" are regulated by the State and Feds (USACE) so there things you have to do ultimately to meet all of those regulations.

maybe its kind of silly/unimportant amidst all the destruction and hardship that PEOPLE are facing, but as someone who deeply loves my cat and my family's dogs, i could not help but immediately think of the pets, farm animals, and unhomed domestic animals this week. this person is a fucking hero.

New flood watch posted for almost all of VT.

Starts with a potent line of storms tomorrow afternoon, not long lasting but could drop a few quick inches. Then more coming this weekend.

This is where the Wrightsville Dam situation could really go downhill quickly.
