Resort or Ski Area: Wachusett, MA
Conditions: PP, Crud if you looked for it
Trip Report:
Decent night tonight, but not what it could've been. Huge crowd was there during the day as they were parking in the lower lots and the night session held a good crowd too. However, conditions weren't how they should've been. When you groom a foot of Utah blower, it blows away. And that's what it did. Way too much scrape for the day after a 12" dump. Snowmakers were pounding Smith, creating an ominous manmade cloud underneath the night sky.
Conifer: Scraped to hell in many spots. Some decent LSGR way to the sides, but even that didn't build up as good as normal. Lots of beginners out once again with Christmas upon us. Want wait for Smith to open to spread out the crowds a little better. All the wobbly folks go down Conifer and the rest go down 10th.
10th: Also scraped to hell down the middle and even in many places on Lower. Lots of LSGR on the right side, but even there you'd pop onto a slick spot and then back into the crud. Polar was a little short of full speed and had up to a 3 minute wait at times, but was shorter than that most of the time.
Frannie's: Poached a run down it at 10. Hard to see with no lights and the Smith cloud blowing across the Vickery Bowl. Fun run with lots of powder and the occasional water bar. Good to get away from the brutal groomers.
Hitchcock: Was in nice shape as I hit it before grooming so the 4" or so from today were evident on it. Had fun on the right side on the bottom pitch with the water bars and all natural snow over there.
Look Ma: Good adventure here. I was blasting along the powder on the ungroomed left side and all of a sudden I got taken out by a fallen branch. Lost a pole in the powder during the fall and it's still there right now. Looked around for a good half hour and never found it. Even more embarassing to be walking around aimlessly right under the lift.
Ralph's: Very large sections of trail are dark because of ice storm damage so it gets a bit funky in those areas. Nice snow the whole way too... this had the least snow blow away. Minuteman was in full speed with lines approaching 5 minutes at times.
That's all for tonight... I'll have a report Monday (morning if I don't have school, night if I do) and a Mt. Snow report next Wednesday.
