so they actually think that someone reading AlpineZone is gonna see that spam post and suddenly get the urge to sign up at the site? I guess delusion runs rampant...

I'm just wondering why these guys do that? Does it give them a thrill?

I've often wondered "what's in it for the spammer". Now that I know, I think it's even more ridiculous.

there's a book called "Spam Kings" which gives a pretty detailed look at the spam industry. Interesting read. I guess having read that book I should have known why they post here.

I guess if they happened to do a broad forum serach here they'd see that C.L.I.T.S.'s and A.N.U.S.'s come up regularly in threads ;)

Probably it was posted by a robot that posted the same thing using a list of valid accounts on multiple forums powered by the same software as az (vbulletin). If it's well programmed it can find these forums itself in a search engine and create accounts and even beat the captcha image and email confirmation at signup time. One post is inconsequential, but thousands all over the web can be significant.

Occasionally I'll be called in to check an overloaded sql server to find that someone has setup an unmoderated forum that has no actual users, just hundreds or thousands of robot posts for various spam crap.

Thank the admins and moderators here for keeping it clean here for the most part.
