I decided my season was over yesterday after skiing Sunday River. I know I can ski Sugarloaf this weekend, even got a discount coupon, but I just felt it was time to hang it up.

Last night I packed up all my gear in a storage bin....the helmet, pants, jackets, gloves, goggles etc, all tucked away neatly in a plastic crate for a summer's snooze. Skis have retired from their place near the door in the living room to their place in the corner of the office.

Calling it a year and wrapping things up, I felt good and satisfied. I had a GREAT year. I skied the most days since being a ski bum in Stowe the 2000-2001 season. I got not one, but two new pairs of skis, when I hadn't treated myself to any for four seasons. I was at PEACE with saying goodbye....

....until tonight. I'm looking out the door, rain pouring down, late April and I miss February like CRAZY. Well, maybe not February, it's too definitive. I miss that skiing Vortex, the peak season vacuum where waiting for things to get going is a distant memory and the season ending seems so far away. I don't miss skiing what could be skied right now. I miss height of the season, people so passionate about how many good days are left and the hope of a possible epic day that might just happen tomorrow. I miss 25 degrees with low humidity, dry snow and deep bases. I miss waking up thinking the best days of the current season could still be ahead of me.

I made it just over 24 hours........the jonesing has already begun. BRING ON THE 08-09 WINTER

DHS I did not go over to Barker at 11.30 on Sunday. I skied till 10.30 and was wet. Went back hung out came back out at 1.30 with new dry clothes and skied till 4pm. Sorry I missed you. A few of us will be at the loaf this weekend if you change your mind.

Funny, got the same feeling this morning. Funny how the last couple of year I skied well into May and now here it is April and I'm done. But, for me no loss, with my partner being out for the season, it was my worst, hopefully next one will be better. DHS, sorry I didn't get a chance to meet you, I was very tempted to head over to Sunday River after Tux, by the legs said no :)

I really miss the Wednesday night outings at Sundown. They really broke up the work week nicely.

I miss skiing nearly everyday after work at Blue..sometimes it got a little boring skiing the same 1k vert groomers day in/day out but I'd give my left nut for 15 fast groomers in 2 hours after work today.

I hear you. I miss night skiing at Shawnee something fierce. Now it just doesn't seem right to go home right after work.
