....

Around the 29-30yo mark...
The initial Thanksgiving Day @Killington, with the PM ice-up...instilling that good ol' fear of the fall-line thing for a while  , however...the $8 nights @Wachusett changed my whole feeling about Winter....but don't ask about how long I went without lessons = how long it took me to get my alignment and balance issues addressed

I started at thre young age of 4 on Belleayre Mtn where i still have a small "in the middle of the woods" little ol' house...skied the shit out of belleayre and plattekill and highmount and bobcat for years with the parents til i was old enough to drive and go off on my own. My husband started at 22 with me...my son started at3 at Killington and my daughter was 2...they are 12 and 7 now and can easily keep up with us.

I started around 12 at the infamous Yawgoo Valley. Needless to say I grew out of that quick. I was a hockey player living in RI so I didn't get to start 50+ day seasons until I started college at St Mikes in VT.

interestingly, no one has posted Blue Hills or Nashoba Valley which probably are the two biggest teaching hills in the greater boston area

me - 5th or 6th grade at Big Blue, my town's learn-to-ski program.

I can still see kids coming down the slopes out of control, bombing through lift lines and crashing into buildings!

Started at 10, which I wish was much much earlier now. When I have kids, on the skis at 3, no arguments. Same here as far as St. Mike's. Big pass and no afternoon classes led to a natural progression of a romance continued.

My son took lessons at Nashoba a few years ago. It must have been a decent program; he's still the best skier in the family. :)

I was 13 or 14. My older brother took me to Vernon Valley/Great Gorge for a day trip. I took a pounding (no lesson - just point and shoot) and swore "never again". 9 Months later he somehow had me in the car for a weekend at Mt.Snow. On Saturday I took the morning beginners lesson and I was on blues by 3pm that same day. By the time we were in the car Sunday night, I was an addict.
That was 20 seasons ago.

I first started skiing when I was 15 at Greek Peak, NY. Even though the ski area is small, I was amazed with the size of the ski area when I approached the parking lot. I thought it was worthy of hosting the Olympics. Within my second lesson, I was skiing on a blue. It's steep section is very short but it seemed endless to me. I fell about 15 times, but I was amazed I was able to negotiate it without breaking a leg. I continued to ski at Greek Peak on weekends and also with my high school ski club every Friday night.

  • Age 5, Craigmeur NJ, only place I skied until I was 15
  • Skipped skiing for 10-12 yrs -- too expensive for a kid saving for college, going to college, paying off college
  • Started skiing again on a business trip in 1991 in CO...Keystone I think...early season, maybe even Oct...ski brakes instead of leashes like I had been used to...oh yeah and the terrain was sure different than the bump in NJ! Wow! Wow! Wow!
What a difference a few years make. Haven't looked back since!

4 or 5 we would go to bromley or stratton a couple of weekends the go for a long week every winter. i remember that at bromely the ski school had snoopy or some sort of dog as their mascot or something. when i got into highschool we would go every weekend to hunter and to vernon valley. i got my first speeding ticket going to hunter because i had to turn around on the parkway because i forgot my boots.
