'LOL...on dates it's important to hold your wind..is it just me or are farts worse at high altitude..darn Bozeman barking spiders..lol..

Blue mountain is often very windy..but it's rare for there to be a windhold on the detachable quad and six-pack..if there is the Main Street and Burma chairs will most likely still be running.. Really windy days are a good chance to practice my low tuck. Hands forward ass up..wind deflecting to the sides of my arms..like a turbo-boost.;..I think I might have the Ski Jones..LMBFAO

Last season at Jackson Hole..while I was taking my third lift ride of the day..a huge blizzard moved in with windgusts over 70mph..all the lifts were closed..I waited in a long line for a voucher..then had a beer and a bloody mary at the Mangy moose..then I went over to the AlpenHaus for lunch and more beer..then I boarded a bus to Snow King and bought a 2 hour ticket there..quite a day..

Hung out in a small shop at the base for awhile, then retired to the monster SUV for a two hour safety course. Went back to the base to eat lunch and waited until they opened the Apre-Vous chair around 2pm. Then skied MAD STEEZY POWDER RUNS YO in Saratoga Bowl until closing.

Why, I whip out my Ronco....

...pocket Fondue set, and wait out the wind hold in style. No cheese handy ? A quick scrape of my liners will work in a pinch....

Oh, and this year, I hope to try the Sugarbush pow cat, and take a ride to the goods while everything else is shut down. Sounds good in theory. Will be interesting how it plays out in reality.

cant wait to see the pricing
High demand + low supply = high prices

What would you pay for powder cat skiing on a wind hold day? Untracked top to bottom every run with ridiculously low competition. Pick your trail and you get 2k+ untracked. Would depend on how deep the snow is but I would easily drop somewhere in the $100-200 range if the snow was deep enough. I can imagine folks with deeper pockets would pay more. I might as well if the pockets were deeper. But if there was two feet to be had, I'd be busting out the wallet for sure... that type of stuff is priceless. Would need to be enough runs to justify the cost. Day after wind hold you can usually get two or maybe three solid untracked runs if you know where to go and get in line close to the front. General skiers without knowledge of the mountain would get one untracked run in that situation though. Seeing as I could hike three runs top to bottom if I really wanted it bad, I think I would require at least a half dozen runs for $100 and I'd go up from there for more laps.

But the problem is if it is windy enough to shut down the lifts... that snow is going to get blown around. Usually goes into the woods but you never know.

Smart use of resources for a small profit... smart idea by Sugarbush if they do that.

you make a really good point i am surprised stowe and jay dont follow suit. stowe will deff. have the money in town to charge but if it were more that 100 i just skin it if i really wanted it that bad. but i also sometimes like the down days to just relax, get an early buzz and go ballz deep the next day.

come on we both know its sorta a joke its like a 5 min walk you maybe go up 60 feet in elevation.

if you where being serious. i had no idea. i thought it was a little fun jab at it.

I wasn't kidding...

People have told me theres cat skiing.... Now that I've done research... it would appear my tax $ is being used to operate a giant machine for people to lazy to skate...

I ride the Red Chair to the top and get all 1700' vert at magic when it is windy. In the two years I have been here we haven't been on wind hold yet.

We have our share of problems (a big share), but wind holds are not one of them.

Come see for yourself on the next windy winter day. It is actually very peaceful on the way up.

It's O.K., but doesn't really do the day justice. You had to be there. Right?

Well that video was shot outside of the Bridger Center. I skied my first run right under the Apres Vous chair and then my second run in Saratoga bowl and skied down to the base..I got on the Gondola when it was really getting windy and near the top the Gondola kept stopping. I rode the gondoobie with an ambassadar who had a walkie talkie and apparently they stopped letting people on lifts..It was the worst for people on Thunder and Sublette..I camped out in the lodge at the top of the Gondola and had a mocha and trail mix..then weaved my way down Sundance to the Casper area to some woods and down to the base..slow and deliberate turns as I didn't want to get injured as the mountain was empty and the windslab tricky..but I was on bonus time since I was supposed to go home that morning but was rebooked for two days later..wow I can't wait to ski Jackson Hole again in 3 months..
