During the off-season what do you miss the most?

I miss the snow the most, for some reason ever since I was a kid I loved snow, even when I wasn't skiing I would get excited when I heard snow was coming. I also miss the feeling of ripping down a sweet trail and the anticipation of the next run while riding the lift back up. There are other things I miss and some I don't miss so much too, but those have got to be the tops.

The anticipation, looking forward all week to the weekend. Makes work seem worthwhile. I also love the feeling of playing hooky to hit a powder day.

These are a few of my favorite things...

Yes, I miss being on the slopes; riding the chair; stopping and looking miles into the distance; sweet spring skiing days that you hoped would never end; getting a great tree run in and going in for seconds; taking an amazing run on your favorite trail, debating whether or not to do it again, and then hitting it (when you said you wouldn't); sky so blue it hurts your eyes; sunglasses under that helmet with goggles on top; the first glimpse of the slopes from the road; driving up and watching snowmaking; geting that first run on fresh grooming; stepping into the bindings and feeling free; night skiing; hot chocolate on the way; watching groomers work at night.

Phew...and I was going to say, the best part is heading home from a great day all relaxed and refreshed wanting more  :D

Problem is - if you live in a ski area - people take days off midweek and call you up at 10PM to party...

It's tough to explain that - even though I live in a ski town.. I'm not actually on vacation... :)

That's rough, I feel your pain.

15 years ago - I'd be psyched...
But these days.. I need sleep on "school nights"... :)

I can totally relate, it's been the same with me.

I miss that feeling of just getting off the chairlift and strapping in (I'm a snowboarder); as I push off, it doesn't matter if I'm at a mountain in CT or at the top of Baldy Peak in Snowbird, I just get so psyched that I'm about to drop in on my run.

how did i miss this one?

Bob and Trailboss pretty much said it. It is the whole experience.

I get excited when snow is coming, even if I'll miss it, although I get pissed when my friends from CO send me pix in the pow, but I try to return the favor.

Skiing keeps me motivated at work, although at the same time it distracts me from my work.

I love to carve high speed turns, warm sunny spinng days and soft supple bumps, powder, trees, powder, the atmosphere, the first view of the slopes each day, the sound of the snowguns (NE's mother-nature helper), the silence of skiing a powder day with the occasional "YAHOO", the "high" that skiing gives (Actually I'm going through withdrawl right now. Good thing you don'y need a prescrption for skiing, otherwise I would be at the doctors all the time or breaking into the drugstore like those looking for oxycotin (sp?)), powder and "sick days".

Every weekend is a vacation during ski season! As someone said before; the anticipation all week during work, pulling up to the house at around 8 at night, with the sky clear with stars and it's SO Cold Out!

Seeing the kids off to ski school and then a day skiing with my wife and our "skiing friends."

That great tired feeling after skiing hard all day.

That great tired feeling after skiing hard for a few hours.

That great tired feeling after watching the kids ski hard.

Hmm, I think I'm getting old!
