What's the verdict on Tenney this year?

They certainly got a lot of press for their exclusive snowmaking technology, but did their snowmaking live up to their marketing hype this season?

Good one Josh! I haven't heard a peep about Tenney since October. Has anyone skied there this season?

i did october 4th, so yea, it was cool to get turns in that early. went over for a few hours during school vacation week, and it wasn't that bad at all - but then again, everyone's having a bad year.
but the new snowmaking equip is only for one small section of the mountain to operate in offseason times -

You've got a short memory if you don't remember Tenney announcing "expanded" or "increased" snowmaking--not just in reference to the summer glacier. :)

Skied there in February and March during 'high season.' Their base depths were nothing to write home about. Atrocious snow reporting added insult to injury.

Since 1984 I've skied Tenney every year they were open except the 2001/2002 season and last season. In the past I found the area to be humble and enjoyable.

With anything that is HYPED like they were the last 18-months, the shameless promotion by the marketing department and Mr. Eagan, expectations vs. reality were two different things. I’ve met Dan Egan a number of times at NH Ski Club Meetings and he will tell you that himself with a big smile!

Take Crotched Mountain for example, they came in under the radar and they enjoyed a nice season last winter. Pat’s Peak is always low key as well as Gunstock and Dartmouth Skiway. I remember in the late 80's-early 90’s when Cannon tried the "Burn your Boots Off" campaign. I found they scared more people away with their ice-for-snow trails and their cold weather as well as terminally poor lifts.

I believe Killington was and still is the king of the "fiction-for-truth" mountain condition reports. I learned a long time ago that excited skied are no more than lemmings….I think you get my point.

Back to my original thought, I like to believe Tenney is a nice mountain. It serves the industry with nice terrain and traditional cut trails. I liked when they offered more glades than the open trails they offer now, but that is gone…With a good snow season, it doesn’t need a lot of man-made snow nor does it require a long drive into the White Mountain National Forest to enjoy. Hey, with all due respect try to enjoy it for what it is.

I think that the mountain itself is great and has a lot of potential. Regrettably, the crew running it has not done a good job and I'm still disappointed over our experience last season.

Tenney Mountain

I was thinking about Tenney this morning riding into work. Hornet the trail that runs under the Peak Chairlift can be a blast. I like Forget-Me-Not and Snap Dragon however I felt the conditions were much better when they were totally gladed. The gladed area north of the triple-chair is all right but short.

When my son was a little guy (8-12), we used to spend a lot of time there. I never worried about him skiing there. We skied the whole mountain however certain days we would yo-yo Morning Glory, Edelweiss and Tote Road.

He really learned edge and speed control on those trails. He jumped off his first sets of rock jumps there and well that got him started.... that was when I was forced to make him wear a helmet.

Watching him develop his skills there was a pleasure then and a memory treasure now. I need to go skiing!

I FIND TENNEY A VERY ENJOYABLE MOUNTAIN TO SKI. mY KIDS ALSO DID THEIR FIRST "ROCKS" THERE. hOWEVER, LAST YEAR WAS THERE WORST OPENING. iT WAS TRULY AWFUL AND THEY HAD A DIFFICULT TIME HOLDING ANY SNOW. i THINK THAT A 12/10 OPEN DATE IS PROBABLY OPTIMISTIC FOR THIS YEAR. i HOPE THEY MAKE IT.

FWIW, dan egan is no longer with Tenney. He's gone back to Sugarbush to work with his brother - http://www.sugarbush.com/summer/mediacenter/detailpress/pr2004-08-31.htm

I definitely see Tenney as great community area mountain, medium size with some nice friendly features for new england families. NH's definitely lucky to have so many of those, keeps the locals close, versus going for far off vacations.

ok i live 5 mins away from Tenny and i have been there couple of days this summer and the thing that i think needs to be done in the near future would deffinetly be that they need a highspeed quad to the summit. They would get more buisseness if they did.
