Right where I want to be
Personally I'd think that it is the wrong time to look. Right now they'd be more focused on season passes and other things. I'd say the best time for deals would be right after Presidents Week when most folks stop skiing. That's the time they are motivated to get folks out.

End of August beginning of Sept the deals start coming out with the early season K deals and others.

I find that many of the frequent flyer cards are not really worth it for example (disclaimer - not hating on killington - just happened to look at last years Skiing on the Cheap)

Killington Express Card after 6 visits 7th was free last season. The card costs $129 if you go 6 weekends (I work mid week so mid week not really an option) then have a free skiing day the average is about $76. So you saved about $13. Lets say you blow it and never get to the free day - @6 days you are at break even anything less and you lose. If you goal is to get to two free lift tickets then you might as well have gotten the season pass.

If you are a mid week skier and you can ski 7 mid week days then it result is an average of $57 that is looking better but still not great!

HOWEVER

What is pretty awesome at Killington - if you are a veteran or active duty - the Express Card is free and that is a better deal. Works out to less than $58 on Weekends and $38 mid week!

(Does not work out well for families)

Yeah K sucks, cost me $13.35 a day to ski there last year on my pass

Keyword "pass". If you can ski there like 70-80 days. I have trouble getting to 50. The express cards are worse! I generally ski weekends and a few midweek days so getting to 70 even is out of the question.

33 days on the pass.

$13.35

Pass went up about $25 this year (with tax). I'll have to ski more.

You also are have a schedule that allows you to ski midweek and buy a pass for that. Those are cheap pretty much everywhere except for Stowe.

I barely even consider midweek "deals" noteworthy they are so plentiful. If your schedule allows you to ski midweek, skiing on the cheap is pretty easy.

Midweek pass that is - that will never happen for me or my kids since I work M-F and they are in school. That pass is a good deal if you can swing midweeks! Still think the Express Pass is not a good deal which what I originally talked about. You justified my point - if you used the Express Pass it would have cost a lot more.

Don't forget the K-58 tickets (good anytime) or the K-38 tickets for midweek skiing. K-38's can be upgraded to K-58's if you want to ski a weekend day. Not a great deal but not bad either. You can buy as many or as few as you want.

While I do ski K a few times a year. I would not want to ski the place or any place 33 times in 1 year. but to each their own. If you enjoy it then have at it.
Been buying a season pass there for at least 15 years. One thing about K is you have 5 different base areas you can start from which has a tendency to make each day a little different (6 if you include Pico). I do spend about 25% of my ski days at other areas though. It's convienient for me to ski there being it's only 15 minutes from my ski club lodge in VT. Speaking about lodging that's another deal (last year it was $24 a night including breakfast).

Well membership costs $200 (more than doubled this year)

What you say now?

I still say deal.

As long as your are happy with it! It takes me about an hour to get to my "new" base mountain or about $25-30 in gas. Living where I live I can day trip it to many places with out over nights so lodging is rarely a consideration.

That's the thing. Living where I live day tripping is pretty much out of the question. Even areas in PA. are a 2+ hour drive & the Catskills 3+ hours each way. Besides when I go skiing it's usually for 3 or more consecutive days. Having access to inexpensive lodging is a big plus for me. Besides our lodge is like a home away from home for me, been going there for about 45 years. I was just there 2 weeks ago.

edit: It takes me about 5 hours to get to either K or our lodge. Best case scenario is 4:45. The extra drive is well worth it for the better skiing in central/northern New England. Within an hour or less drive from our lodge I can hit 3/4 of the areas in VT.

What do you drive? A Humvee? That sounds like horrid gas mileage.

Definitely not a deal but way cheaper then lodging!

145 miles round trip all highway probably 7-8 gallons. Never figured out how to load a small car with ski gear and a family with 4 boys! Tried the minivan route and could not get up a steeper hill during a ski trip and thought to myself - never again!

I have an SUV with a 5.7 L Hemi sucks on gas but it has balls - Chrysler Aspen! We drove up to Bolton Valley last year in a snow storm a boat load of cars were slipping and sliding including subarus, AWD VWs, AWD Audis, some SUVs but I made it up no problem and never slipped. Great traction control.

We plan on down sizing next year to a cross over since we will be down to 1 or 2 kids.
