Which day is better?

Since Christmas and New Year's are on Tuesdays, we're getting the privilege of a free vacation day on one of the Mondays before. Which one's a better ski day, do you think?

Considerations:
We're hosting Christmas at our new place this year, so that Monday would be best for family time. Could probably get a ski trip with the in-laws, if it'll be an exceptional day.

Of course, for New Years, we could get a 4-day trip in, or at least some solid day trips.

I just can't decide.

What day is it going to snow? But there will probably be fewer folks on the trails on the 24th. The morning of the 1st will be pretty uncrowded too.

Lemmings being lemmings, definitely the day before Christmas for best conditions and least crowds. You will have the place to yourself (and you may have to run the lift yourself since the staff always seems utterly distracted.)

I can't vouch for the weather :0) that's an independent variable.

Both would be best, but HR being HR, it probably wouldn't fly.
I'd like to wait for the weather, but we have to announce our choice so that whole units aren't all out at the same time.
Tough choice, here.

Day before Christams - no one is up yet, they come late Christamas Day or day after. Day before New Year's is crowded bcs the hotels, condos etc. require you to book tehe entire week end to get New Year's Eve.

I concur

I would do the weekend before Christmas. I find that most area lodges start filling beginning the 26th, increasing to near or at capacity by the 29th. Scale those visitor numbers to dining and shopping- you will enjoy your Christmas weekend more- just as tomski says. He is absolutely right.
