Guys take a look at how long the run is and how flat. They did this last year and I saw picture. Not worth it.

If my son wants to put his gear on and watch some snow being made we will go. 5 hours of driving for very little.

This is NOT even the slope that will be open...to the far left on the base...about 100 yds long or so...

Hammer not you busting TB and Bvibert. We is cool.

I said if it were close enough, like 20 minutes away, I would go. I certainly wouldn't drive 4 or 5 hours to ski it... ;)

wow. i'll eat my words on this one. though that isn't much to open on, it's still opening so cheers and props to them! most places seem pretty aggressive this season for some reason, the weather coming up after the weekend hardly seems to make it worth it for them.

I'm surpised as well. Bretton Woods definetly deserves some respect for this. And doing it for free is just cool, no matter how flat it is.

I just wish I lived closer to make it worth it. The trip to Wildcat was worth it, but that was for a mountain full of fresh snow.

Strikes me (without any facts on which to base this) that BW has a very different business model than most ski areas. I think they view the ski area and golf course largely as adjuncts that support the hotels and real estate. They want the ski area open as much as possible to attract guests and keep the guests happy. So letting folks ski free on the beginner runs while they are building a base doesn't really cost them much and creates good publicity and good will.

I agree. The ski area has changed a lot since I was there...for the better facilities and terrain-wise, and for the worst in some ways  They used to be aimed at affordable family skiing and cruising mainly for beginners. The rates were decent and the facilities were OK with the one HSQ. But after they were sold, they went after a different market and the prices rose quite dramatically...now they are going for the older, more well-to-do crowd who skis at Stratton and wants groomed everything and easier stuff. This is their haven now.

i have never known BW to have decent rates. at least since i have been actively following prices during my college years circa 98 or so.

That was when the change took place...before 98 it was a different place...
