I think it will come down to Sugarbush and Killington and from here on out with the new management heading into Killington, those two will be at war every spring to come.

In a normal snow/temp year, Sugarbush will not be able to compete if South is the spring mountain. End of story.

With North, K could easily be outdone. If they pile up 30 feet on Superstar at 2500' or whatever it is, and we pile up 30 feet on FIS, etc. at 3000-4000', I think we win!

As they have done in the past few years little Woodbury Ski Area down there in Ct has been the first to open in the east. Amazingly, they are still open.

Sure they will... Natural snow aside, what's the difference between stockpiling on Stein's, or on Superstar?? Not much in my eyes....

That said, there's no doubt in my mind if they wish, Killington could be beaten this year.... but will Sugarbush choose to stay open that long for the sake of doing so? Doubtful...

Killington will last through their set closing date of May 7th. If Sugarbush wants to stay open that late, they could beat them...although, K should have enough snow to extend their date if they've got some competition, and the sale has closed.

Stein's isn't the only issue. Coffee Run, Gondolier disappear very quickly. If you want anything other than Stein's to open, the the VH Traverse needs to be stockpiled. There's more to think about that just blowing tons of snow on Steins, and the low elevation is not helping there. Superstar's elevation is something around 2500' at the base, and close to 3500' at the top. Stein's bottom elevation is about 1740', and the top is 2880'. That's a significant enough difference to mean a 2 or 3 degree temp difference.

Of course, I'm not arguing for Killington's sake, I'm arguing for Mt. Ellen!!! Spring skiing at Mt. Ellen is 3000' to 4083'. That's another 2 to 3 degree difference than Superstar... 2 or 3 degrees closer to freezing and keeping the snow. :)

With all the snow we've recieve and still expect to recieve, I'm not sure if that 2 or 3 degrees will mean much.

And Killington is gaining on Sugarbush, it's a 2 horse race :smash:

No, we weren't talking about this year. I was referring to "normal" Aprils!
